For those of you that don’t know, Dropbox is a file synchronization service that lets you keep files on multiple computers in sync similar to Windows Live Sync or the more robust Windows Live Mesh, but available in three different pricing tiers. Dropbox users can share files with others, back them up online, or access them from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection.

So how do you add your Dropbox to the Start Menu? The How-To-Geek figured out a hack for this that using the Libraries feature and renaming the “Recorded TV” library to a different name. Obviously, if you use that library for your saved TV shows, this solution is not ideal. But if you don’t, then you can definitely take advantage of this hack. Mike’s hack builds off of the WinVistaClub forum tip about how to add the quick launch toolbar back into Windows 7 . The end results of the hack look like this (click for image). 

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Open an explorer window and navigate to %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
  2. Hit the Alt button then go to the View menu in the toolbar that appears (that’s actually another great tip in and of itself – Alt displays the classic Explorer menu!)
  3. In the View menu, temporarily change the settings for Show hidden files… and Hide Protected Operating System files.
  4. Create a new folder called System Launch.
  5. Change the security privileges on this folder: Right- click on it and select Properties. Go to the Security tab on the window that appears and you’ll see the Everyone user group selected.  Press the Edit button and give this user group full-control.  Press Apply then OK.
  6. Now click anywhere in a blank space on the taskbar and select Toolbars and New Toolbar.
  7. In the window that appears navigate to %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
  8. Select your System Launch folder and press the Select Folder button.
  9. When this new toolbar appears, you can unlock the taskbar and drag it to where you want and drag and drop any icons you want in it.  You can also right click in it and un-tick the options Show Text and Show Title and change the icon size from small to large. (Toolbar needs to be unlocked to see those options).

Since there’s no official client for WiMo users, a hacker over on the XDA-Developers forum decided he would figure out a way for making the iPlayer’s mobile interface work on Windows Mobile.

If you live in the UK and have an HTC Diamond (more models may be added later), you can try the following steps to hack your phone.*

First, you’ll need to get a copy of CorePlayer – the only Windows Mobile Media Player that can handle H.264 and AAC formats. Associate .mov files with the player.  Also make sure you have the Net framework 3.5 installed.

Finally, install the iPlayer files: iPlayer.cab. It’s recommended that you install this to Internal Storage since videos are stored to the installation folder.

When using the application, it’s best to use Wi-Fi or use with an unlimited data plan.

Features:

  • Finger friendly UI including flick kinetic scrolling, swipe gestures and vibration feedback.
  • Supports Nav Sensor and Stylus Removal
  • Higher quality video/audio than Samsung User Agent hack (483x272 h.264 video stream).
