It was summer of 1972 when Atari released its first arcade game – Pong. It was revolutionary entertainment, launching Atari to quickly become the definitive gaming platform of its era, selling 30 million Atari 2600 consoles. Most modern, successful video game franchises are still inspired by Atari's original creative concepts.

Today with Atari and the help of our friend Grant Skinner we are launching Atari Arcade, continuing to showcase what's possible on the web when you couple a modern browser like IE10 with a modern OS and the power of HTML5. Atari Arcade is an updated take on eight classic Atari games like Pong, Asteroids, Missile Command, and Centipede – all built with HTML5 and multi-player capabilities that come to life with a new Windows 8 touch device and Internet Explorer 10. It also works great in IE9 on a Windows 7 PC, or any other modern browser.

First Look: Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview

Just when you were expecting to hear more about IE9 on this opening day of Mix '11, and today we'll be talking about the IE10 Platform Preview. IE10 builds on IE9 with support for even more standards like CSS3 gradients, and grid layouts. In this video Rob Mauceri walks us through some of the new features of IE10 including an example of flowing of content in multi-column layouts.

Flashcards.Show Version 2 running on Windows Phone and IE

Have you ever needed to memorize a number of objects’ names, such as word definitions in a new language, animals' names, people’s names, or tree leaf shape nomenclature? If you did, you might have employed a useful tool, known as the flashcard. By creating cards with questions, pictures, or terms on one side and answers, names, and descriptions on the other side, you can more easily perform the rote memorization of a category of things. The Flashcards.Show application takes that concept and makes it easy for you to produce decks of flashcards and also enables you to play three different types of games that make it easy and fun to learn.

This is a short video presentation of the Flashcards.Show application, and a sneak-peak to behind the scenes, looking into the code and architecture of the application.

The IE9 team have put together two HTML5 sites. The first is called Santa's Workshop, a site that lets the speed of your browser define how many elves can help pack Santa's bag, and HTML5 Blizzard, which shows you how many snowflakes can be animated at 60FPS. The site uses CSS3, HTML5 canvas, WOFF fonts, and SVG. So go install IE 9 beta and give these a try.
