      <title>Avalara Maps Sales Taxes on Windows Azure</title>
      <description><![CDATA[ <p>Turns out that sales taxes are&nbsp;more difficult to calculate than it might seem. More than 15,000 taxable regions inside the US form a mosiac for sales tax calculation. <p>In the web services community, few terms are as loaded as &quot;Service Orientation&quot; (or SOA, or SO). Over time, the term has become so convulted that it's hard to identlfy its real meaning. My conversations with developers and architects tends to support that
 theory. In this screencast, I describe service orientation in practical terms and highlight the role WCF plays in building service oriented applications. It is my hope&nbsp;that&nbsp;the concepts I outline&nbsp;remove&nbsp;much of the fog that has collected around service orientation
 /&nbsp;SOA, and also help illustrate the role WCF plays in the service oriented arena.<br>

<p>Software as a Service (SaaS) is simply the idea that instead of paying for the bits and running them on your server, you ought to be able to buy the service you want and let somebody else manage it. Of course, this is nothing new.&nbsp; I have my website hosted
 by people I've never met. I don't care too much about the bits that actually run the server, I just want it to run and I don't want to think about it.&nbsp; In this case study overview we meet Remend one of the new crop of companies who are moving to a SaaS business
 model.</p>
