Druckbetankung - Die Show :: Silverlight Teil III

A New Skin for Windows Mobile?

The Mobi-gas-mic blog recently pointed us to a project underway to develop a new skin for Windows Mobile phones called “Glazed Vista.” The developer has posted some screenshots of what appears to be a very slick (and shiny) new look and feel for Windows Mobile and PocketPC devices. In fact, by the look of the phone on the right in this screenshot, the interface looks more like a Vista/Windows 7 computer than it does a mobile phone. And the phone in the middle is showing a homescreen with what appear to be very sidebar-esque gadgets like battery strength, signal, weather, etc.

Of course, all we have here are screenshots and a note that says the work is “in development” so who knows where it falls between vapor and solid. However, I’m bookmarking the page for future reference because that is one nice-looking skin!

Stardock Releases MyColors

The team at WinCustomize has just announced that their MyColors skinning suite is now available to the general public. For anyone interested in skinning Windows, running MyColors is going to be a lot of fun. With the application of a MyColors theme, you can completely transform your version of Windows - GUI, icons, gadgets, wallpaper, and all. The MyColors suite will offer many themes that appeal to sports fans - like themes from the NBA, NHL, and NCAA - but there are other themes available as well. For example, Ford and GM are offering themes featuring their vehicles, but Windows geeks will want to check out the "Diamond theme," a theme that is very much like Aero Diamond, one of the concepts floated around before the Vista team settled on Aero Glass. If you're already running Stardock's WindowBlinds or Object Desktop, you can still run MyColors without uninstalling those items. The Diamond theme is free, as is the MyColors app, but the other themes are available for purchase at $20 each.

Cairo, a New Windows Shell

Cairo is an alternative Windows shell that will let you completely change your desktop from using the current Windows UI to a brand new system. The design team behind the project wants their shell to offer an elegant but functional alternative to the Windows desktop. The Cairo shell offers many different features, some of which can be found in standalone programs, but never all combined into one seamless shell replacement program. Some of the features include a Start-Bar to replace the Start menu, a dynamic desktop where you can browse files and folders right from the desktop, multiple desktops, a launcher, file/application grouping, and much more.
Skin Your Windows Mobile Phone

PointUI is a free skinning application for Windows Mobile devices. Offering an attractive interface that's a breeze to use, PointUI replaces the default interface with just a few icons and an uncluttered home screen. Designed with touch-screen devices in mind, PointUI lets you control your device via touch, or, for non-touch devices, you can use your thumb with the directional control. The Applet Ribbon provides easy access to time, tasks, appointments, calendar and up to date weather forecasts and current temperatures. Using PointUI, you can quickly navigate between applications, create new emails, messages, appointment, documents, and more. The app is still in beta, so be aware that there could still be some issues with it. You may also want to check out the PointUI forum to make sure that there are no known issues with your particular device. But if you like to experiment and are looking for a new look and feel for your Windows Mobile device, PointUI is worth checking out.
