Sometimes, it can be depressing to look through your music collection. Sure, you’ve built up a decent library of your favourites, but there’s so much music out there, you can never hope to listen to it all. Or indeed, afford to buy it all.

But what if I told you that you could boost your available repertoire to not just hundreds of tracks, or thousands of tracks, but millions of tracks available on your Windows phone? From today, it’s possible, as Microsoft and Spotify have teamed up to launch a new music app for Widows Phone 6, and the forthcoming Windows Phone 7.

Spotify Premium subscribers will have instant access to the Swedish company’s massive library of tracks, all available to stream from the cloud via Wi-Fi, 2.5G or 3G connections. If you’ve previously built up Spotify playlists on PC, they’ll be waiting for you on your phone. Tracks can be skipped, with rewind, fast forward and shuffle controls available.

Spotify runs in the background, so you’ll be able to send texts, make calls and browse the web whilst enjoying your favourites and there’s a cool offline mode, which will allow you to download playlist tracks from the cloud to your device for those times when you know you won’t have a network connection. Sync features are also impressive – you can wirelessly sync your local files to your phone and any tracks you add to a playlist on one device will appear instantly both on your phone and PC.

Spotify for Windows Phone 6 is available now from the Windows Marketplace for mobile.
The 4 Top Kin Features Explained: Loop, Spot, Studio and Zune

By now, you’ve heard the big news about the new Kin smartphones, the phones aimed at the uber-social tween and teen set, a demographic group who need something smarter than a “feature phone” but may not be quite ready for an advanced smartphone (and its accompanying data bill!).

The Kin One and Kin Two devices don’t support an array of third-party applications like the more grown-up Windows Phones do. They aren’t designed for you to check your Exchange email or Outlook calendar, or collaborate with your work colleagues because these are kids phones.

However, although there aren’t dedicated apps for social networking, the phones do allow for interacting with social media thanks to Kin’s integration of photos, videos, SMS messages, Twitter, MySpace and Facebook posts directly into the Kin UI (user interface).

With Kin Loop, for example, you see an incoming stream of data from your friends which includes all of the above. And with Kin Spot you can push out your own media (again, photos, videos, maps, status updates, etc.) to your friends. Loop’s stream is prioritized by who you tag as your “favorite” friends, so you just see content relevant to you.

Kin Studio, the third major component to Kin devices, is a secure online service where your media is stored. It’s sort of like how Microsoft’s “MyPhone” web service functions except that the Studio feature is automatically syncing your content to the cloud straight out of the box. From the online Kin Studio service, you can browse your content and share it with others.

Also included in the devices is Zune support. As with the Zune HD, Kin owners can sync their phones with Zune’s desktop software or can stream music via the Zune Pass service. An interesting note which some may have missed is that Kin phones will soon be able to sync with Mac computers, too: a Zune client for Mac arrives in May.

There are more features coming to Kin phones over time, but no word on what exactly those will be just yet. (We hope it’s a few games and IM, though.)

In the meantime, there’s a lot of info about the devices online at the newly launched Kin website here: kin.com.

ICE: New Smartphone Offers Tactile Feedback to Touches

Taiwan-based Mobinnova, Sony Ericsson’s new handset manufacturing partner, has just announced a new smartphone they’re calling the Mobinovva ICE. The phone, which works under GSM, WCDMA, and HSDPA networks, also introduces new touch sensitive controls, mobiToday and mobiShift.
Live Search For Blackberry To Get Even Easier

Microsoft and Research in Motion (RIM), makers of Blackberry smartphones, have just announced a deal that will make Live Search even easier to use on Blackberry devices. Already available as a software download, Live Search will now be found directly within the Blackberry’s built-in web browser as well as in RIM’s mobile portal. In addition to integration of the web search within the browser, the new partnership will also bring integration of Live Search in Blackberry Maps, too. From there, Blackberry users will be able to perform contextual, location-sensitive searches as well as look for nearby points of interest. These new changes are expected later this year.

Oops, I'm Late!

Over at Jason Langridge's blog,
Mr. Mobile!, Jason has discovered a really useful app for your Windows Mobile smartphone. The application is called "Oops I'm Late" and it automatically alerts meeting attendees that you are running late to
your appointment. The application uses your GPS location information from your Windows Mobile Device to determine when you are running late, then it alerts the other attendees via SMS, email, or it can automatically call a designated contact person.

To use the program, you set up your appointment in your Outlook calendar as you usually would, turn on the GPS on your phone, and run the "Oops I'm Late" program on your phone. If need be, you can add or remove attendees from your notification list. That's
it! It's really a "set it and forget it" type of application, especially when it's used for regular or recurring meetings with a consistent attendee list. Now you can concentrate on driving and not fumbling with your phone! Great find,

Backup Your Mobile Phone for Free

The just-launched Cellfish service offers a way for mobile phone users to backup the content saved to their mobile phones for free. If you've ever lost your phone or replaced it with a new one, you've probably also lost some of the mobile content that was saved on your device. Now your favorite pictures, videos, music, wallpapers, and more can be stored safely and securely online. With this new service, you receive unlimited storage at a online digital "locker" which can be accessed from any PC or mobile phone with an internet connection.

In addition to storing your content online, you can also share this content with your friends. Sharing content is easy: you simply click on the content stored at Cellfish and then click on the "Share" button underneath the content image. You then type in your friend's phone number, email address, or Cellfish username and your friend receives a message with the link to the content. If he or she is also a registered user, they will be able to send the content to their digital locker and access it on their cellphone. The Cellfish website also offers a large selection of music, wallpapers, ringtones and videos available for download from the site. Some of the items are free and some can be purchased for an additional fee. The Cellfish website is certainly useful for anyone who uses a modern-day mobile device's many features beyond its ability to simply make and receive calls.
