<itunes:summary> When AdvancedMD acquired their electronic medical records product, they standardized on SQL Server for their Software-as-a-Service product. Troy Young, Chief Architect at AdvancedMD, explains the decision to Bruce Kyle, ISV Architect Evangelist. AdvancedMD has been a Gold Certified Microsoft Partner for years. AdvancedMD leverages their existing ITPro staff knowledge and used Microsoft tools to accomplish the migration. Microsoft Migration ToolsYou can find out more about the migration tools to help you move your database application to SQL Server from Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, or Access at the SQL Server Assessment & Migration Tools. SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) 2008 is a complete suite of tools that dramatically cuts the effort, cost, and risk of migrating from Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, and Access to SQL Server 2008. SSMA automates almost every aspect of the migration process including assessment, schema and data migration, business logic conversion, and validation. Companies such as Motorola and Simon & Schuster have used SSMA to migrate their business-critical databases quickly, easily and accurately. With SSMA, IT organizations and ISVs now have the freedom to move to SQL Server and take advantage of SQL Server's exceptional security, scalability, developer productivity, and the industry’s lowest total cost of ownership.
From Paper to the Cloud -- Epson's Cloud App for Printer, Scanner and Windows Azure

The team at Epson Imaging Technology Center (EITC) has created an application called
Marksheets that converts marks on paper forms into user data on Windows Azure Platform.
Mark sheets are forms that can now be printed on standard printers and marked similar to the optically scanned standardized tests that we've all used.

You can apply this technology to create your own data input form or mark sheet. Users can print the form on demand then mark, scan, access their data in the cloud.

Epson software developer Kent Sisco talks with ISV Architect Evangelist Bruce Kyle about how he created this sample application.

The demo shows an admin configuring a Marksheet form. The form could be part of an application at a kiosk at a golf course. Next, the video shows a golfer printing out a score sheet and then marks the scorecard for each hole of golf. Once the golf day is completed,
the user scans the sheet even if the scorecard is crumpled or torn.

The golfer's marks are then sent to a Windows Azure

SQL Azure. Users can then access their golf scores from a Windows Azure ASP.NET application.

The demo is a prototype for printing, scanning, and data storage applications for education, medicine, government, and business.

For other videos in From Paper to the Cloud series, see:

Windows Azure Lessons Learned: Quark Software

In this episode of Azure Lessons Learned I chat with Stephan Friedl, Chief Architect at
Quark Software. Quark (of

Quark XPress fame) has been built a new business called
Quark Promote for small and medium business to design and print high-quality collateral (brochures, business cards, postcards etc) to promote their business.

In and of itself this is an interesting Software + Services solution built with a compelling WPF design client and a high performance ASP.NET server. Quark chose to deploy this solution using Windows Azure. In that way they could build out their business
to handle the numerous relationships they’ve setup neighborhood printers. The architecture is service-based specifically so they could handle these type of relationships and host the solution on the partner’s site and in fact host on multiple sites from that
same single multi-tenant solution running on the Windows Azure platform.

Juval Lowy calls the Energynet. Alternative energy covers a wide range, from new cars, to micro renewal sources energy producers, infrastructure upgrades to charge stations and distribution, new power and transformation grids, and integration of billing

required of developers that want to not only survive but thrive on the next boom in software.
