So, what better time to warm up your desktop with the new Windows 7 Holiday Lights desktop theme? 17 new desktop wallpapers each featuring a wintry theme are on offer, with “sparkling images of holiday celebration and winter wonder” according to the website.

My personal favourite is the snowy river scene, shot deep in a forest. It looks like the coldest place on earth, apart from the glow from a sole fir tree, fully illuminated and bathing the adjacent river with light.

I don’t know who had the impossible job of wiring that tree up, but next weekend, when I’m nailing up our own lights in the garden, I won’t feel so bad!

3. Activate the theme. Double-click on the Bing.theme file to launch it. In the Subscribe to RSS Feed? prompt, click Download Attachments.

After following the three above steps, you’ll now see the Bing theme appear on your screen. It will also be stored in the “My Themes” section of your personalization options.

Using the Windows 7 box art for inspiration, Zawir Rahim over on DeviantArt created a wallpaper pack featuring the Windows 7 branding in a number of HD images (1920 x 1200) in all colors of the rainbow. Redmond Pie then took those individual wallpapers and packaged them into 15 different theme packs for easy one-click installs. (Download here – zip file).

Next, over on Life Rocks 2.0, they've aggregated 35 of the best Windows 7-inspired wallpapers, also from DeviantArt. This collection includes creations from several different designers and many unique styles. To download those wallpapers, there isn't a single zip file - you'll have to click on the images and then grab them from the DeviantArt site itself.

While you’re at it, you can also head over to The Windows Club forum and grab some unofficial Bing wallpapers, too, created by the community members.

Using the Windows 7 box art for inspiration, Zawir Rahim over on DeviantArt created a wallpaper pack featuring the Windows 7 branding in a number of HD images (1920 x 1200) in all colors of the rainbow. Redmond Pie then took those individual wallpapers and packaged them into 15 different theme packs for easy one-click installs. (Download here – zip file). Next, over on Life Rocks 2.0, they've aggregated 35 of the best Windows 7-inspired wallpapers, also from DeviantArt. This collection includes creations from several different designers and many unique styles. To download those wallpapers, there isn't a single zip file - you'll have to click on the images and then grab them from the DeviantArt site itself. The timer displays an image for a set time while you decide whether or not you want to use it. After applying the wallpaper, you have the option to shut the program down which is great for those of us who don’t like having apps runs in our system tray.
