Johnny Lee: Microsoft Researcher

Johnny Lee works in Microsoft Research, with a specific penchant at creating interesting and useful devices. He has a session scheduled for MIX09 called "Interaction Techniques Using the Wii Remote" where he will show off some interesting uses he has found
for using the Wii Remote as a PC input device, as well as several other devices he has put together to utilize in various computer input scenarios. I thought it would be fun to chat with him about his work creating some of these devices, and get some pointers
on how others might benefit from this as well.

You can also find some videos of his experiments here:

Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

And here is the description of the session he is doing at MIX09:

The Wii remote is a sophisticated controller containing a variety of sensing capabilities. In this session, Johnny Lee covers several interaction techniques enabled by the Wii remote and explains how you can develop your own applications. Johnny also introduces
a few of his other research projects in the broader domain of Human-Computer Interaction.

Gamers with a heart!

I just had to share with you all a story that truly touched my heart (and I try not to let anything do that so this is huge). A good friend of mine- and HUGE gamer, has been anxiously awaiting the launch of the Wii so she could camp out in line, grab her new console and enjoy her wii-kend.

So she and her pals line up and they're group #595. Clearly this isn't at the front of the line. Anyway- as luck would have it- they got called up around 2:30 am because they are press, and she finally got her brand new Wii. So she's walking- nay, SKIPPING - home when she sees a mom sitting in line with two kids sleeping in her lap. Apparently it was one of the sons 11th birthday the next day and all his little heart wanted in this world was a Nintendo Wii. So....my friend sold her Wii for the same price she paid for it and went home Wii-less. She left with her sad Zelda game that she couldn't play...but made one kids eleventh birthday the BEST EVER. I love gamers

The giving gamer....

Wii vs. PS3

So rumor has it there will be 7-9 million Wii's made by 2007. Rumors are also circluating that the PS3 will have major supply and hardware issues (mostly blue-ray) when its released next month. Not to mention the price tag is going to be fairly steep. Which we are all aware of...$500.00 to $600.00 bucks not including any games. I have always been a microsoft fan girl but I also have a Playstation, PS2 and PSP. And I love my PSP. I'm curious what you guys think of this battle? I will admit now I will be one of the first in line for the Wii, but something about the PS3 is holding back my enthusiasm. Thoughts?

Xbox executive Peter Moore talks openly about Xbox, wii, PS3 and more...

Peter Moore sat down for an intimate chat with some Xbox community site leaders and I crashed the party. This man is like a God to me so it was AWESOME to hear his thoughts on the Wii , Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. He also talks about how we interface with technology, gaming subscriptions, pricing and the future of gaming. It's good stuff- plus he has that adorable British accent!
