Release Process For Guidance Explorer
- At the start of the iteration, decide features to be implemented for the release, including the existing bugs to be fixed.
- Dev Team ensures new features are clearly defined, so implementation can begin, by Monday following the last release.
- Dev Team ensures daily builds to all members of the team for continual use.
- Dev Team performs regression and new-functionality testing on each change before checkin.
- One member of team smoke tests every checkin to catch emerging bugs or lacking functionality in new features.
- Dev Team ensures all the bugs and features are implemented for the iteration by Monday 12:00 PM PST before the release.
- Team completes one round of test pass covering all the use cases by Monday 4:00 PM PST before the release, outcome is bugs identified and shared with the team.
- All severity 1 bugs are fixed, severity 2 and 3 bugs are triaged, and decision of fixing the bugs or postponing them is informed to the team by Monday 5:00 PM PST before the release. Severity 4 bugs are not to be fixed for the release. Please refer Severity definitions
- Dev Team fix all the outstanding Bugs and sends release candidate to the team by Tuesday 10:30 AM PST.
- Team does a sanity test pass covering all the use cases and Ok's the release candidate by Tuesday 1:00 PM.
- Releaser prepares the News article, download description (should be short preferably a line or two) and Known issue description and sends to Jason for review by Tuesday 2:00PM PST.
- Team reviews / updates the articles and Ok's it by Tuesday 3:00 PM.
- Releaser uploads the release candidate with the release description on GotDotNet site by Wednesday 10:30 AM.
- Releaser update the known issue page on Channel9 by Wednesday 11:00 AM
- Before updating the News article releaser makes sure he has all know how of creating news article using the HTML tags.
- Releaser posts the News article by Wednesday 12:00 PM.
- Team and others blog about the release and we are done.
