Access control
* Allow us to filter users accessing our Spaces (i.e. I wanna block the kiddies) --
Abbie * Finer granularity on access to individual posts, so I can mark one post private, another for my MSN Allow list, another for a custom list and another public to everyone. After the recent UK case of a blogger sacked because of what they posted people need to have control of levels of access to individual posts. If you're going to have access locks, they also need to be user customisable; I might want to plan a surprise party online and not let the birthday girl see that post, so that needs to option for a custom access list. -- MaryPCB
* Syndicate some posts when spaces is in Private mode: I currently have my spaces set to just be seen by messenger contacts. This fully disables site syndication. However, I would like to have some postings syndicated and made public. It would be nice to allow to have an "[] Allow this post to be public/syndicated" checkbox option for blog posts, and allow syndication of partial content to the web. --

Communities
* Communities would be nice. I realize there are MSN Groups, but I am really not a fan of groups. I would love to see communities form on Spaces. It would enable us to network better with users who have similiar interests. --
Abbie * After reviewing Yahoo360 and flickr, I found that the idea of group sharing is very compeling and innovative. Would like MSN to incoporate their idea of sharing multiple types of resouces (blog, photo, music, group, book, ...) with Yahoo360 and flickr's idea of group sharing (or social networking later).
* Agreed there's a social networking aspect missing to this whole thing. Blogs and photo album sharing is great, but the FOAF concept is missing and seems like it would easily be built off the MSN Messenger contact list. I have my contact list, but how am I connected to my buddies buddies...get it?
* I would like to see the service open at certain extent in oder to allow distributed innovation from other service vendors, with MSN service is the core of the whole value ecosytem.
HTML content
* I understand the security issues but I would like to be able to add some HTML tags and javascript to an area of the space (to add an input box and perform my own search, perhaps bringing results back into an
IFrame, for example). It would be nice to do this in my own "module" (webpart?). The Custom List module is the sort of thing I'm after but the area free form rather than a list. Could these "free form modules" even be exportable? i.e. could this be a away to allow 3rd parties to create modules others can import into their space? Using the javascript
XMLRequest 3rd party modules can be created to do all sorts of things (e.g. pull local weather information)....or does this make MSN Spaces compete with My MSN? --
GuitarGav * HTML Module - A "free" module where users can add their own HTML content. Could be used to add quotes or anything a person with some knowledge of HTML can dream off. I would guess that script would be disallowed.
* I second this! Sometimes you want to link an image or something (like imood.com) but you may want to just do that at the side!! -- Krissy
Storage space
* File Download Option – Maybe this one is bit too extreme for the MSN Spaces Team, but I want to put it out there anyway. Could I have storage option where I can post my files on MSN Space publicly for downloading?
Andre * I would like to upload files to the site (in a similar manner to photos). e.g. add zips, exes, mp3s, etc. I understand there will be storage restrictions. Maybe a "premium" feature. Without this feature I have to setup another web site somewhere and link to files on that. I would like to keep my MSN Space as my only web site. --
GuitarGav * I'm going to have to second this. For $19.95/month you get Hotmail Plus! for 2Gb of email storage, but who really uses that much email? That storage should be shared with a persons Hotmail, MSN Spaces, and MSN Groups. Not particularly an MSN Spaces issue per se, but it would make life a lot easier if someone wanted to post say a small home video file they made with Movie Maker so their friends and family could watch it too. It could be stored with all of that extra storage. It should be all tied together. -- hillboy8
* Thirded - as it seems to be going largely ignored. More storage space would be useful, and frankly I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to get that storage. It's allready planned to give Hotmail Plus subscribers the option to remove ads from Windows Live Spaces when that launches - why not provide additional photo storage too - I'd like to use a space primarily for publishing photos - but the 30MB limit is putting me off. -- Badgerguy
Support for other browsers
* Make http://spaces.msn.com/blogit.aspx compatible with browsers other than IE, thankyou. --
LoadsGood * Do you want to add a new section on this page for "Support for other browsers" to collect these issues together (OTOH, I'm perfectly comfortable with these issues being a lower priority) --
LagBolt
Other stuff
* Backups - Some method of backing up all MSN Space data locally. In case of disaster. Not that that would ever happen ;) --
BillHowell * I second this one. -- justAnotherSE
* I third this :) -- podgod
* I realize this isn't at all intuitive or the ideal experience, but if you use a tool like
Newsgator and subscribe to your own RSS feed, you can save backups within Microsoft Outlook --
MikeTorres * I know, and I do something like that. But being able to download a database - and upload one! - would make it alot nicer. Uploading would allow me to switch from a blog I've had for years without losing material, for example.
* Sign In/Sign Out – It still gives problem and I have to say it’s the most unreliable feature of MSN Spaces so far. My simple recommendation is to create a URL that takes you immediately to the Editors Page. e.g. http://adacosta.msnspaces.com/admin. Note the shorter URL, why do I have to type out this long URL: http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta, plus the URL doesn’t have a clue where I really want to go. I want to reiterate this, the purpose you have a blog is to add content to it, not look at what you have added to the blog, if I want to know what my blog looks like to the entire world, I can simply click “Preview Space” from within the Editors Page.
Andre * Banners -
LoadsGood had an issue with this, but I think it was due to my not explaining it properly. I would like a banner that represents my blog. To make it clear, it is not a commercial banner for advertising or making money, but represent me, for who I am and what my site represents.
Andre * I only had an issue with this because (others, not you) would use the picture as a means of advertisement. Even I would, I would use the picture to advertise Channel9. But I do like the idea. --
LoadsGood * Ability to view a blog entry in a separate window.
Andre * Polls - I would also like to have Polls, so if I want people to vote on a topic I'm discussing.
Add In Maybe?
* Blogrolls - Add a button when you are visiting other blogs which would allow you add the blog you are visiting to your 'blogroll' --
LagBolt * Calendar - It would be nice to have a Calendar module in a monthly view in which users can see what was added on specific dates.
* Nofollow - When you implement Google's new "nofollow" tag, please add it to the entries in the automatically generated New Spaces and Updated Spaces lists, as well as comments (both Google and Technorati will thank you!) --
LagBolt * Archives module - Hide links for months that do not contain any blog entries. -- redefinery
* Archives module - Show the number of blog entries in parentheses after the month link, such as "February, 2005 (10)". -- redefinery
* T-Shirts! When are the "Spaces" T-Shirts going to be available for purchase? --TheViewMaster!
* Any plans for a newsgator outlook edition plugin? -- steve.newson
* I would like MSN spaces to add wiki support. My favorites is somethings like mediawiki with access control. And more space please (50MB)
*I have noticed a problem with email publishing and the msn messenger contact card display. I am using outlook 2003 with Word 2003 as my default editor and HTML for sending format. When I email a blog entry with this set up the Contact card lists the title then several blank lines and ... The tool tip is several more lines of blank space followed by the content. It isn't a big deal, but I thought I should make sure it was known so it can be fixed in the next release. -- mseverns
* Provide a module for
FeedMap please! -- Walt Lounsbery
* Provide holiday themes! Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Hannukah, Easter, Labor Day, Valentines Day, Independence Day, and so on... -- Lisa and Walt Lounsbery
Don't just add stuff here at the end -- scroll up and see if there's a better place for it in one of the existing topics. Try to keep the formatting consistent (i.e. !!! headers and * bullets)
