How to use the Office Migration Planning Manager

All environments are different and the OMPM is very customizable. Check here for general information on how to use the OMPM
All steps are optional. The tools were all designed to be small and simple (all but Reporting Tool are command line programs) so they can be adapted to any environment.

Step-by-step OMPM process

  1. Deploy the scanner
  2. Import scan results
  3. Analyze the data
  4. If desired, Use "VET":OMPMVET to extract versions, "import action logs":ImportActions
  5. Use "OFC":OMPMOFC to convert files to the new Office 2007 formats, "import action logs":ImportActions
  6. Review what converted successfully and what didn't using Reporting tool

Variations

Maybe you are interested in just converting the files and not so much about the whole database and reporting part. If so, just run the "OFC":OMPMOFC in standalone mode and point it at manually at whatever folders you want to convert.

Alternatively, perhaps you are interested in only the document inventorying aspect of OMPM and aren't ready to do any conversions. No problem - you don't have to convert anything. Note - by default the scanner is not configured to recognized 2007 formats, only older formats. However, you can add the new formats and any other custom extensions you want in the offscan.ini

As the OMPM database is just a SQL database, you can bypass the Reporting tool or any of the other tools if you wish to deal with straight SQL. Or, create your own custom scripts or database front ends depending on your needs.
