OneCare won't update

A/V Definition, Spyware definition, Firewall rule, and program updates will fail for any number of reasons.

*If you are connecting to the Internet via an authenticating proxy, it will fail to update.
*If your system date and time are wrong, it might fail to update.
*If you perform a system restore, it will report a problem with updates, but it will generally resolve itself within 48 hours.
*If the a/v database is corrupt, it may fail to update.
*If you are on dial-up and only remain connected long enough to check a web site or two and some emails, you may see an error for updates.
*If you are on dial-up, and are using a download accelerator, updates may fail.
To resolve update issues, first verify your Internet connection. Then, check the system date and time, adjust if needed. Then try a manual Check for Updates. If it continues to fail, you have four choices.

1. Let it go for another day or so, it might be a server or connectivity problem
2. Download a utility that will attempt to reset the local database and download signatures immediately - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?linkid=87330 - instructions are at the download page. (This small utility stops the service, deletes the database, and restarts the service. It will immediately download the updated signature database, which could take up to an hour on a slower dial-up connection, during which time OneCare will be in a red status.)

3. Uninstall and reinstall OneCare - the hammer approach. UninstallTopics
