BackgroundThe Global Bank Reference Implementation is a partial realization of a compelling business scenario that incorporates challenges common to a wide variety of organizations.
Microsoft has developed this first release of Global Bank to serve three main purposes:
* Demonstrate the application of
patterns & practices guidance including design patterns and application blocks.
* Demonstrate the use of the Enterprise Development Application Framework (EDAF).
* Establish a community that can influence the development of new business scenarios and the selection of appropriate technologies.
This first release of Global Bank demonstrates application of design patterns such as Page Controller and Model-View-Controller within the presentation tier, and service interface design and implementation using the Serice Oriented Integration pattern and the newly released Enterprise Development Application Framework within the Business Services Tier.
This first release of Global Bank is not intended to solve all problems relating to the development of a loosely coupled application. By way of example – comprehensive coverage of securing web services has intentionally been omitted. Microsoft would like to do regular releases of this solution addressing relevant challenges in a timely manner.
Future releases of Global Bank could focus on aspects of application design such as:
* Demonstration of the use of the User Interface Process Application Block (UIP 2.0).
* Guidance for using WS-Security and Web Services Enhancements (WSE 2.0) to secure the application.
* Implementation of a Windows Forms client with offline capabilities.
* Use of business activity monitoring and business process orchestration using
BizTalk Server 2004.
* Development guidance to illustrate the tenets of service orientation.
