How do I download the videos?
- To download, right click the file type you would like and pick “Save target as…” or “Save link as…”
Why should I download videos from Channel9?
- It's an easy way to save the videos you like locally.
- You can save the videos in order to watch them offline.
- If all you want is to hear the audio, you can download the MP3!
Which version should I choose?
- If you want to view the video on your PC, Xbox or Media Center, download the High Quality WMV file (this is the highest quality version we have available).
- If you'd like a lower bitrate version, to reduce the download time or cost, then choose the Medium Quality WMV file.
- If you have a Zune, WP7, iPhone, iPad, or iPod device, choose the low or medium MP4 file.
- If you just want to hear the audio of the video, choose the MP3 file.
Right click “Save as…”
- Mid Quality WMV (Lo-band, Mobile)
- MP3 (Audio only)
- WMV (WMV Video)

VS 2008 was completely built using the patterns and pratices derived from MQ (Milestone Quality - see Carol's interview that covers this in detail) and Intentional Engineering (see Emma Williams' interview to learn all Intentional Engineering in the Developer Division).
This is the best release of VS to date, rife with innovations from profound IDE enhancements, debugging, performance, CLR to associated languages and tools.

MSDN seem to be struggling at the moment, or at least it was just hours ago, and I doubt our subscription covers Team Suite and not just Pro, which isn't out yet, so I may just take a look at the 90 day trial. By that time, the smoke from this will no doubt have cleared (probably just within days really), and the nice thing is that I can just keep working on projects I created with that version when we get the real thing. So thanks for also providing the trial copies.

When normal MSDN Subscriber's links will be available?
Also, since it is an ActiveX control it runs in IE7's "Protected Mode". So it the download will end up being located in the virtualized hard drive space IE7 creates for security. That is why you received the prompt about saving the file to temporary internet files.
In those two years the rate of change and progression within the language and Visual Studio technologies make it a beyond exiting time to be developing .NET software.

One thing I noticed though during setup of .NET Framework 3.5: It takes ages to install. I'm on the second machine right now, and so far installation takes up to 30min for the runtime alone.
Works for me.*Not that the initial experience was that good. I had to disable the popup blocker for that site. It wouldn't save to my downloads folder on another drive It popped up some ancient stone age file save dialog box, and it immediately said it had saved the file to my temporary internet files and asked if I wanted to open that folder. I eventually figured out it was probably referring to some stub file listing the downloads to be "managed" and not the actual download.
Once I got past all that the actual download seems to be proceeding at a reasonable pace.
*Edit: I take that back. This Akamai cr*p is an f*ing joke on Vista. When it asks you if you want to open the temporary internet files folder, DO IT!. If you don't, you'll spend the next half hour trying to figure out where it put your f*ing download (navigating there afterwards wasn't showing the Vistualized folder). I finally found it by starting another download and answering yes to open the folder and there it was.
If, as the FAQ says, one of the reasons for using Akamai for Top Downloads is to "evaluate alternatives", then I say the evaluation= FAIL.
This piss-poor experience has really put a damper on my excitement. Hopefully I'll perk up a bit when I install VS2008 later tonight.
PS: I know this probably isn't the VS team's fault but that of the MSDN people. Congrats on shipping. I'm looking forward to using VS2008!
I think MS was able to give us the most per-formant IDE since vs6 time.

But... No MSDN library for VS2008?
It was an option to download during the installation for the Express Editions. I can't imagine it being unavailable for the Standard, Professional, and Team System editions. Perhaps it is available as a separate MSDN download?

Does anybody know whether the BCL source code can be retrieved from the Express-edition of Visual C#? Is the source code even available yet?

Is about opeing a solution targetting .net framework 2.0 made in VS2008 to be opened in VS2005.
Could there be any other neat solution for this problem

Somebody posted this earlier in the thread. It's the download link for the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2008 DVD ISO.
Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition is still available for download from www.microsoft.com/express/ under previous version. We will make the 2005 version, including the CD images that you can use to make local copies of, available for about one year after launch.

Note to marketing: in your Silverlight campaign, modify audio to include the new features of LINQ, world class JavaScript debugger and CSS editor in Visual Studio 2008.

There are no plans for an SP4 of the 1.1 Framework now, however should customer servicing volume and demand supports a need then we would certainly respond
