Make Bing the Default Search Engine in IE

Now that Bing is live, you may be ready to give it a real shot as your default search engine, instead of just “playing” with it for fun. Switching search engines can be hard if you leave it up to yourself to try and remember to navigate to a new URL manually – old habits die hard. Instead, it’s better to go ahead and switch over your browser’s default search engine to the new service if you want to really try to make a change.
If you want to do that in IE, it couldn’t be easier. There’s actually a new search provider add-on that enables Bing search for you in IE8. The Bing Search IE add-on delivers search results and suggestions from the new bing.com and all you have to do is click the “add to Internet Explorer” button found here.

Thanks, I had been wondering whether my current Live Search default search helper would switch automatically to Bing since IE8 wouldn't detect the new handler on Bing.com. This is better than waiting until that, if ever, would have happened.

Bing is pretty neat, and the new modificaitons are nice. I usually get relevant results, but do you know one query that Bing/Live Search usually doesn't nail correctly? Try searching for "on10" and you don't get any direct link to this site to its homepage until digging down 3+ pages in the results (changes sometimes). Even then, this site is referred to as onten.net instead of on10.net (which I think is better and more relevant). I was hoping Bing would correct that, but nope. Hopefully it'll get it one day.

I can't pin my finger on it exactly..but there are a lot of small/big improvements here that make it far more enjoyable to use. The search and mapping performance is great.
