We're here in Cafe 34 on the main Redmond campus to welcome Vista and Office to the world. The room is filled with microsofties, lunches and laptops, and hundreds of balloons netted suspiciously to the ceiling. In a few minutes Windows godfather Jim Allchin will grace the stage as master of campus ceremonies for the launch. While we won't be liveblogging the event, the C9 Coffeehouse thread will be extremely busy over the next hour. We'll also be updating this post later in the afternoon with some aftermath reporting.2:01pm - Watch the Vista and Office launch webcast with Bill Gates and co.

I was very impressed with the person who did the demo of the new Office and showed the cross-platform gaming with XBOX360. You never get a second chance to make a first impression the saying goes.

MSFT needs to put as much thought into their presentations as they do put a lot of hard work into their products lately. If they have to put out a search for a "Steve Jobs" type of evangelist , so be it.

I`m so tired of Apple getting so much press for some things that really aren`t revolutionary at all , just because of the RDF that Jobs emits.

Anyway...nice job MSFT ! The more I see of Vista and Office , the more I realize is "under the hood".

posted by bufbarnaby
