If you don't know what Woot! is, now is a great time to find out. Woot! sells one product each day starting at midnight CST. But whatever that product is will usually go for a lot less than you would find it anywhere else. Woot! is run by a group of friends who went to school with each other, some in New York City, some in St. Louis, the rest in a 200,000 sqft warehouse in Dallas, Texas. Don't miss the Woot! podcast. Each day 'Matthew' puts together a funny jingle about the product of the day from his home studio in New York City.
Today's Woot! is the 30GB Zune, also now known as the first Zune. Keep in mind that the Zune 2 software/firmware update also works on the Zune 30, so for under a hundred dollars you could have a 30GB Zune with all of the same features as the Zune 2.

I prefer the styling of the original Zune or Zune30 over the newer model Zunes. However...I'd never buy a Zune. There are just too many shortcomings. I mean, honestly, we still can't access the memory like any other portable media device on the market...and it lacks some obvious user conveniences such as a clock. Did Microsoft really believe the Zune could ever compete with the iPod?

Buy.com is also selling brown ones for $99.

Which I can't understand.. "Zune" in itself if the rumours are true about the slang.. coloured brown.. how can the even sell?

Awesome post.
I agree.. but more along the lines of it isn't Xbox branded and doesn't play XBLA games nor is the screen size adequate.. maybe at 640x360..
ROFL.. @ did MS think it would compete with iPod. (probably Zune only exists so that they can continue to hide Jallard.)
Also, Zune really should be trying to compete with DS. It just NEEDs a touchscreen, and as you said rudimentary productivity apps. Like a clock, calc, calendar scribble notepad, address book.. but by then it's an MS issue PDA. SCARY to too many people to even sell.
Here's to looking ever forward to an MS product worth purchasing because of it's own merits not because it's an MS clone of something else.
