Because Surface needs multiple cameras and a projector it makes it a rather specialized device. This is actually practical and in a form factor people can use.

With all the talk of resolution problems, controls being borrowed from NES, no innovation in PS3 and 360..
Should consoles have a built in screen with multitouch?
Which is an obsolete question.. as there might only be one console, no longer several incompatible platforms. If they have a mulitouch console (video touch panel of it's own) acting like a second daughter screen to your main screen (HDTV or LCD monitor), offering you extra controls, and always on guide for 360 and detachable mobile platform for gaming on the go.. hmm would be interesting.
That multitouch panel could be Zune 3.
