How do I download the videos?
- To download, right click the file type you would like and pick “Save target as…” or “Save link as…”
Why should I download videos from Channel9?
- It's an easy way to save the videos you like locally.
- You can save the videos in order to watch them offline.
- If all you want is to hear the audio, you can download the MP3!
Which version should I choose?
- If you want to view the video on your PC, Xbox or Media Center, download the High Quality WMV file (this is the highest quality version we have available).
- If you'd like a lower bitrate version, to reduce the download time or cost, then choose the Medium Quality WMV file.
- If you have a Zune, WP7, iPhone, iPad, or iPod device, choose the low or medium MP4 file.
- If you just want to hear the audio of the video, choose the MP3 file.
Right click “Save as…”
- MP4 (iPod, Zune HD)
- Mid Quality WMV (Lo-band, Mobile)
The dorks are taking over- Dorkbot is a nationwide group of technology based artists who get together to collaborate and create works of art. I dropped in on one of their meetings and made a few new friends...check it out.

When I start hearing glass rocks telling me a stories, I'm out. Seriously, that's pretty cool, but really strange at the same time. That light harp is really awesome though. It's amazing to see where technology is going to take music in the future. Seeing that you can play a harp now with just passing your hand through a light wave. lol, more Paris Hilton jokes, priceless. Why don't those ever get old? She's way to easy of a target.

This video was great...very inspiring!

Playing the laser harp with your head was pretty good too. Since your hair is all crazy, does that mean it makes different noises when your head is playing it as opposed to Tina's head?

That would depend on the resolution (ie how many diodes in per area), the geometric dimensions of laura's head and hair and how fast she could possibly move her head back and forth before passing out as opposed to Tina...
I... guess I'm a dork.

The Wiki entry for laser harp also has some interesting information.

While it is a bit sad that he doesn't acknowledge the similarity to an laser harp, his audio implementation is fundamentally different from the laser harp concept. The triggers impact the sound in more complicated ways than just simulating virtual 'strings'. The target audience is also very different. His goal was to make an instrument that a musical novice could enjoy, and use to produce intersting sounds. A laser harp has a simpler interface which is harder for a novice to use, at least to use in a way that produces interesting sounds.

Great show. Where can I go to find events and groups like this in my area?

It's great to see that whole "nerds with facilities meets the crunchy artists" scene I left in college still flourishes with the "older than 21" crowd.
I miss the dorks of my college days and all the weed-speak (ever talk to stoners? I've known people who never touched the stuff that talk about the same "deep" topics...good times). It's a shame central New England is such a social desert and bereft of anything not associated to vehicles, alcohol and Nascar (*cue the banjo). I guess I could always be "the old guy" at some local university's hangout.
Dorkbot would be a blast around these parts.

Go Jean-Michel Jarre

This looks *very* similar to the Jarre laser harp actually... Not sure what the difference is. Jarre breaks the lasers in a similar way to also trigger notes.
