Virtual Earth 3D -The next dimension in search! Well, at least the third dimension :)

Download

Virtual Earth 3D is the future. I haven't been so impressed or had more fun with a software application in a long time. Seriously. Not only can you zoom in fly down the street you live on- but you can do a search and find all the cool used record stores in your neighborhood. This team has created the most photo-realistic search tool out there and the proof is obvious. Check out how seamlessly you can zoom in and out of these virtual cities and you can't help but notice the lack of "grey boxes" you may find instead of actual buildings- like you would see in some other 3d search engines ;P
Plus Stephen Lawler talks a little about how this was done and what to expect from it in the future...

Fantastic segment, Laura.  Great editing too.  I saw a story on the news about this earlier.  I love virtual 3D maps...it's one of the reasons I'm such a big Flight Simulator buff.  Virtual Earth 3D is amazing.  I've already installed it on my PC as a replacement for...my other virtual planet 3d map software Wink.

The logistics of capturing and modeling all those cities...and doing it again every few years is astounding!  Not only that, but it makes for brilliant marketing opportunities with all those virtual billboards.  Amazing.

Thanks, Laura.  Now if only they would make a Mac version so I could enjoy the benefits on all my computers.

ARgh! Ads! It seems they love to "float" under my cursor, right when I'm about to double-click when zooming in.

Awesome concept! And I'll eagerly await its completion, but for now, I'd rather see hundreds of grey boxes than 10 textured ones in primary cities like Chicago, New York, etc. Keep on truckin' with that (Las Vegas is amazing).

How do I get my Freestyle Pro to work with it ? It works with everything else MSFT and is made by MSFT. It should be similar to using an XBOX controller like I saw in the demo by the MSFT dev ?
