Microsoft's answer to the iPod has officially launched. I stopped by Major Nelson's office yesterday and got the chance to put my hands on a Zune. I must say that the wi-fi sharing of songs and digital photos is pretty cool. I didn't get the chance to check out the integrated FM Radio Tuner though. It's slightly bigger then the iPod and the screen looks great. Most of you guys have been reading the same articles I have. So what do you think of the Zune?

YAY, happy birthday ZUNE. Right in time for non denominational winter seasonal exchances of material objects...
It's not being marketed as much as it could be.. like gaming websites aren't doing blowout articles, hasn't had a Wired magazine cover (to my knowledge even though Xbox did).. and about that content.. how are people supposed to convert content for the device exactly?
Hmm a than>then issues..
Spelling of iPod inconsistency.. hmmm.

Nothing like a portable device with massive amounts of overbearing digital rights management built in. I'll pass...

Augh! The DRM is compatability. Would you really want it to be incompatable with online stores?

I don't think I could bring myself to buy it; I just hate that it doesn't work with Windows Media Player 11. Who made that design decision? Other than that I'd like to get one.

I think it's pretty cool, though it's still early to tell. Zune doesn't quite live up to the standards set for it just yet. I love the wi-fi sharing of songs and pictures, but most of us want to see it transfer user files and movies too, like a wireless hard drive. I really dig that screen and the overall design. Unfortunately, it has so many shortcomings like compatibility with windows media and it doesn't sync with anything other than computer running Zune software. I think we'd all like to see more compatibility with the 360 and Xbox live. The FM radio tuner doesn't really interest me and neither do the gaming options. Still, Zune has potential and could trump the iPod in a few years, especially if it does everything Microsoft said it might.

Will you be getting one? How about one loaded with Cold Play and Peal Jam hits for the holidays?

I though Zune was incompatible with Play for Sure.
What other DRM does Zune have then? (That matters?)

I think it is brilliant, which is why i shall be getting one as soon as they are released here in the UK.
I am hessitant about importing one because of warranty issues, i saw the video feature the site done and was very impressed with what i saw, it certainly looks as though Ms have developed an Ipod beater in the form of the Zune, besides Ipods are very much over hyped and low on features in comparison, but on the negative tip, the lack of video sharing is a loss of a good opportunity i think. LS:)
Bye

More screen...less wheel should be the new Zune mantra. And it feels better in the hand with it`s rubberized plastic and small concavity on the back. Radio tuner with RDS=nice
Many possibilities for firmware upgrades possible with the wifi , such as downloading over wifi. The site is very snappy in resposnse. I would like one with a bigger HDD though. I`m sure it`s in the pipe.

"More screen;less wheel" is a poke at Apple as I saw them side-by-side and noticed how funny the ipod looked with the big click-wheel and the small screen. The Zune 4-way pad doesn`t need to be as large to do it`s job , which leaves more room for that nice screen

I got mine on Monday (Dell shipped early), for the most part I like it, but I've been struggling with the Zune software. It's been 3 days of off and on attempting to transfer the rest of my music and I'm still not there. The album art hasn't been loading and so far none of my videos or pics have made it onto the device eithe.
At this point, I'm wondering if the problem is more me than Zune as I hope to spend more time working through it this weekend. The player is solid when it comes to music and the video screen is awesome.
Even though some of the problems may be user error, I wish the Zune software was a little more rounded out. It's very slow and I don't really get a sense of what exactly is transferring to my device until I actually unhook it.
I haven't hooked it up to my 360 yet, so I'm interested in seeing how that works. This will be my office music device and my nano will remain (for now, at least) my "on the go" player.

I reckon it's probally you mate:), although instuction booklets can be tiresome things i find they are worth lokking at carefully, it's the best thing to do in order to fully know your machine, although you would think that there should be a web site featuring easy step videos showing the you what you need to do to get going.LS:)

This needs to be seen ! The 2007 Saturn Aura matches the brown Zune with double-shot green.
