How do I download the videos?
- To download, right click the file type you would like and pick “Save target as…” or “Save link as…”
Why should I download videos from Channel9?
- It's an easy way to save the videos you like locally.
- You can save the videos in order to watch them offline.
- If all you want is to hear the audio, you can download the MP3!
Which version should I choose?
- If you want to view the video on your PC, Xbox or Media Center, download the High Quality WMV file (this is the highest quality version we have available).
- If you'd like a lower bitrate version, to reduce the download time or cost, then choose the Medium Quality WMV file.
- If you have a Zune, WP7, iPhone, iPad, or iPod device, choose the low or medium MP4 file.
- If you just want to hear the audio of the video, choose the MP3 file.
Right click “Save as…”
- MP4 (iPod, Zune HD)
- Mid Quality WMV (Lo-band, Mobile)

Wow this was an incredible segment. Great job Tina et al. These pictures are so compelling. I'm buying this book this weekend.
One thing you can do with your old equipment is donate it! I donate old equipment to goodwill and to childrens shelters here in town. I'd rather have someone else use it. Also you can always donate your old cell phones to folks that need them in case of emergencies (battered womens shelters).

I have been advocating technology recycling since my family decided to replace our first computer over a decade ago. I have always felt horrible disposing of useful equiptment, even if it is completely obsolete and beyond further service. We began stockpiling our old machines and eventually donated them to charity and technology drives a few years go. Don't forget to get a receipt for all your donations, they are tax deductable! Many companies will now discount your purchase of new equiptment if you return your old systems. I usually purue that option with Apple.
It's horrible all the things that go to waste and where they end up. How many people get hurt and how much damage are we going to do before we correct the problem? I seriously hope the message spreads!

Yeah, I know I'm supporting the wrong party on a Microsoft run website. I'm not preaching about the superiority of either platform, I've used both. My only purpose is to further the cause and support tech recycling.

I work for a Recycling Center. Right now I work in one of the client's buildings to manage their nation return center. Everything we take either is resold or scrapped right here in the USA.
We have a huge grinding machine that tears metal to shreds and oddly enough, the only thing that stops it dead is , believe it or not, mouse balls.

As for me, I usually sell my old *working* monitors or other computer hardware, fixed and cleaned for cheap usually to friends or to other tech enthusiasts who happen to need a particular part. Another thing I'd do is just re-use it on my newer machine.

That's really interesting about the mouse ball. I suppose it makes sense though. Isn't a sphere the most structurally sound shape? Luckily, there aren't too many mice with balls anymore. ewww, nevermind...that's not what I meant.
Cool, that's what I do too. Might as well get a few bucks back instead of just throwing it away or recycling it. Give it to your mom...sell it to a friend for cheap...

That's Restriction of Hazardous Substances. It's a law that goes into effect in the E.U. next month - they've been working on it for years. All electronic equipment sold into the E.U. can no longer have lead, cadmium, polybromodiphneyls, or several other substances that are even harder to spell.

I have 2 old computers in the attic. I never sell them, I just stack them basically. I'm sure there's a better place for them to be than in a damp nasty attic. Awesome segment.

Well, I hope my computer recycle links were helpful. There seems to be some good organizations in WA (such as the "Take it Back" program) that you could get in contact with.
Anyway, I also thought the High Tech Trash! segment was great and that is why I posted all those links for ya. I know I posted a lot, but I thought they could be useful.
