Dave Cook has created an interesting
write up on the Netflix API. Netflix has a web service API model so you do need an internet connection to leverage this.
He currently has 4 articles from the simple to the complex.

If you are interested in doing a netflix project, you have to sign up for a developer account at the Netflix Developer Network home page.
