Today's inspirational video is another project by Bryan K Brown, last mentioned in Kinect & PAC's (Programmable Automation Controller), and combines mind control with the Kinect. Kinect and MindWave Data StreamingJuly 2012 - This is a quick demo showing simultaneous data streaming from a Microsoft Kinect sensor and a Neurosky MindWave brainwave monitor. Although I'm not doing any real-world device control in this version, I did start from the same code I used for my servo camera control project last month (please visit the Projects page). Here the software has been modified to read state information from the MindWave sensor such as Attention, Meditation and Blink Strength. As you'll see in the video, signal quality is also monitored, as indicated by the "Poor Signal" value increasing from zero when the EEG device is pulled away from my forehead. Although the Attention and Meditation data is a little difficult to control, I think the MindWave's ability to accurately detect blinking (by isolating electromyography patterns) makes it a good compliment to the Kinect SDK's face tracking features. The next step is to find an interesting machine control application for this technology mashup. This is a quick demo showing simultaneous data streaming from a Microsoft Kinect sensor and a Neurosky MindWave brainwave monitor (http://neurosky.com/Products/MindWave.aspx). Although I'm not doing any real-world device control in this version, I did start from the same code I used for my earlier servo control video (http://youtu.be/xb65iuOj8VE).
