And yet you chose blame the *user wars* on Microsoft by saying: *The real problems occured when Microsoft went around calling linux a cancer*

Apple, being a niche OS exists only because it has a *fanboy* base to keep it going. Window on the other hand wins becuase it was able to learn from IBM and other on how to use your popularity to exclude others.

Windows has NEVER relied on it's *fanboys* to survive. Apple and Linux to a certain extent (desktops, not servers) exist only because of their *fanboys*.

Nearly all Apple users are Apple *fanboys* to the extent that they feel that their love of Apple means they must hate Microsoft. Lucky for us, most Windows users don't hate Apple, they don't even notice that it exists. Yea, they may have an iPod, but it syncs to their Windows machine.

Then you need to report the problem. I have used C9 for the last 6 months with FireFox with very few problems. I just reciently started using the IE7 beta, but until it came out, I only used Firefox.

I'd like to add that when I think of the term "Microsoft fanboy", a mental picture of Jorgie comes to mind, the quintessential Microsoft fanboy! Or Sven.

Why thank your Beer.

It may interest you to know that have been reading this on an iBook so you have just proven just how full of crap you are.

My first computer was a TRS-80, but my second computer was an Apple ][c and I first learned to program in Pascal on Apple ][s.

I like Apple hardware when someone else is paying for it, but I sill have not made the adjustment to OSX, I prefer Windows mainly because I am more familiar with it. On the other hand, I think Bill G. is the king of the Geeks and Steve J. is king of the ego maniacs.

As long as MS keeps adding the features that users ask for and Apple trying to tell me what I want, I will be an MS fanboy.

Jorgie
Lets just say that if I was to base my OS choice on the types of people that use that OS. I would delete my Linux partition right now. As far as I can tell most Linux workstation users are zealots (not all, I am not.) and most Windows users are people who need things to Just Works(tm) for them and if another OS worked for them better then they would switch. I use Linux because it fits my needs better then Windows in most cases, but Windows also fits some of mine (gaming and I port all my games to Windows) so I use it as well, just less.  Apple users are the like Linux zealots but worse because they seem to value style over funcionality from what I see (I am not saying Mac OSX has no functionality, it's that it seems to care more about style then anything else) and think that Windows sucks cause it doesn't have style.

Seriously:

Can the personal attacks please stop? It's getting kind of annoying.

It might just be me, but I've noticed an increase in the amount of personal attacks since the redesign or so.

There's nothing that makes we want to walk away from a thread than a personal attack. I can't stand them. I indulge in them from time to time, I admit, mainly because I get frustrated with people attacking others, and like to "reverse the process". It makes me feel better.

I really want the personal attacks to just stop.

For the record I'm sick of these philosophical, political, meaningless threads that are totally boring.

Who cares what country, corporation, genre, operating system, is great, sucks, etc.  I only care about the code, don't know about you guys.

What happened to the awesome threads like Beer and Sven going around about C++ Macros?  I'm going to keep repeating that until we start getting some interesting posts.

Let's hijack the thread and turn it into a technical discussion.

So what's the difference between embedded VC++ and C++ on linux? Can I load up any linux distro on my iPaq?  Where's beer when you need him.

it is funny -

im a fanboy - yet i ridicule and beg ms day in day out over user customization, user rights, user interaction.. user user user

it's just they run all the computers in the world - so what better way to make a contribution to CONSUMERS than right here?

Often times the best way to get change is to get serious about switching to a competitors product. Begging is pathetic and just shows them that they can do anything they want and still lead you around by the nose. Take your business elsewhere.

Firefox's success is what has prompted the improvements in IE. It wasn't like people weren't already begging Microsoft for improvements in IE long before Firefox started getting a lot of attention.
Although gcc is a very good compiler (in every way) it is a shame it doesn't have better front-ends out for it... I know Visual Studio has set the bar a little high, but nothing is even coming close right now.

Is there something so wrong about having clicky boxes instead of having to figure out and type in complex command line args?

Also, I wish there was a pre-compile-dump command.. Like something that will place all the code in a single file just as if it was just about to be compiled (adds all the headers etc). Not so you can release that as a project but just so you can find bugs that might exist due to conflicts with an obscure header file.
