Hey, does anyone know of a decent program (free if possible) for recording stuff in windows?  I need to record some demos for my mum in case she gets stuck.  Like how to renew the wireless connection and stuff like that Tongue Out

I downloaded fraps but the UI was so poor I couldn't even get it to start recording (it might have been a bug).

I'm sure there's one popular program, I've seen videos with the same red blink animation when the user clicks the mouse button.

Any ideas?

MS' free utility Windows Media Encoder can record screen activity along w/ sound & saves it as a WMV. Though, you've got to have a degree in Rocket Science to figure it out.

Alternatively, you can use the trial version of SnagIt. It's pretty easy to use.

I honestly do not get the mentality of someone posting warez here.

I mean, I suppose in China you may think this is acceptable behaviour but for friks sake this is a Microsoft run site - you must understand this is more than frowned on - its straight up theft.

It's copyright infringement, not theft.

IANAL, but technically I don't think it even counts as copyright infringement.

I think the term "unauthorised distribution" or "unlawful distribution" is more accurate.

AviScreen is free, but you can end up with very big AVI files (which you could always convert to DIVX or another format to save space, but that would require another tool).

Captivate, while not free is very good. Bit expensive though.

!Quick Screen Recorder is very cheap.

Try searching alt.comp.freeware. If you can find CamStudio 2.0, that may be for you (it was free and even the source code was available before it was bought by eHelp, became CamStudio 2.1, then RoboHelp, then bought by Macromedia to become Captivate). If you are a registered user of SnapFiles Pro, you can also get it.

I just find it odd that someone was hounded off the site for mounting a DOS attack on an open-logon box, and yet hardly anyone blinks when someone uses the site to hawk warez.

I think its because 90%+ of us are guilty of warezing something in our computing lives.

I think it's partly because leighsword isn't in here continuously defending her actions as the greatest, most technically accomplished thing she has ever done, while at the same time maintaining it's not against the law or the posted rules of conduct.

But, I suppose W3bbo is right too. Who among us here can truly say they have never pirated software? Very few I would imagine.

I think it's not a shame to me,  Baidu gains from the pirate and became China's biggest Internet search engine, they provides technology for people easier to use their search engine to get illegal softwares, such as MP3 Service, for more see Baidu to appeal Chinese court copyright infringement ruling , the interesting thing is , there is only international corporations(Universal, EMI and Sony BMG) sue Baidu. guess what?Baidu got the government behind them, that's why China always  block their competitor- Google, and most of Chinese college studends are blocked to access Google, the only way to search information from Internet is Baidu(here skiped some small competitors),  do forget to visit the Great Firewall of China.
Alternatively, you could also check out Capture Professional screen capture software to capture images and video from your screen.  There is a 30 -Day trial available which saves to the AVI file format.

Hmmm. This is not the way to go. I mean it is as if somebody sells you a house and you are giving a key to your house to some dudes. That is still OK (at least with the house metafor). But what if those dudes are giving the keys to your house to other people (complete strangers to you). They enter your house, eat your stuff, sleep in your bed.

Would you like that?
Why do you like that with software?

brrrrm! brrrrm!

Wink DemoBuilder is currently my favorite and is freeware. This tool is beautifully made and can do 'almost' anything the best ones out there can.

The simplicity is what appeals to me. He has other cool multimedia tools as well.
