From the Simpsons version of The Shining:

Homer: No TV and no beer make Homer... something, something...
Marge: Go crazy?
Homer: Don't mind if I do! Argh, Bleck, Grr, hehehe...

No coke for the US troops. No music for the British. Let the crazyness begin.

Thats the thing with portable storage. It can be extremely useful but does have risks involved.

Perhaps there could be some way of having data that actually needs special software to load. Stored on the device, but no use until you get it to a machine that allows you to access it. The software could somehow be tied to the network - so if someone copied it, it would be of no use on any non networked machine.
There should be a simple, Group Policy-based method for disabling the use of USB mass storage devices.

Actually, that kind of setting should be conveniently available for each type of removable storage device:  CD ROM/CD-RW/DVD, floppy, USB/Firewire, CompactFlash, tape drive, etc.

Their implementing something along those lines in my corporate right now. USB ports are getting a lock down accross the enterprise.

Can't say I blame them either.

Thanks to SD cards I could walk out the building with our dev group's VSS database on my phone (Mpx200) and still have room for some production data.

i'm sure going to work in just a thong is also banned.  whats the big deal that the ipods banned?
A lot of MOD depts don't have any kind of dress code so I think going to work in a thong is allowed.
