This probably isn't news to many of you. What I'm interested in is what are your thoughts about this development with respect to the BluRay vs. HD-DVD p*ssing contest? Of course this article leaves a lot of questions unanswered, but supposedly this technology has a better GB/$ value than current optical disk technologies, so it's not too big of a stretch to assume that prices for drives and discs could be driven down to within the reach of non-commercial customers within a reasonable time frame--assuming a high enough volume. Is it even worth bothering with these "next-generation" DVD formats, or would it be better to simply endure the current technology until holographic storage starts to see momentum?
(PS: Can anyone think of a better term for non-commercial customers than "consumers"? I hate that word...)
