Just like the topic says.... What kind of toys do you keep in your office or workspace(for the students).

I really don't keep a lot myself but i've always got my headphones playing music and i keep my "thinking ball" around. I need to get some other things as it seems that having toys around helps me stay creative and relax?

anyone else find this to be the case?

On top of monitor:

  • Mozilla Firefox plushie
  • Panda plushie
  • "Monitor cleaning dog" (plush dog with monitor-cleaning surface on belly)
On desk:

  • Binder clips, played around with whilst waiting for my computer to finish what its doing
  • Those pens that you can't stop clicking
  • And a ruler
erm... that's it.

2 Channel 9 guys, one on each monitor.

I've got a Knutsford postcard right here... I keep on procrastinating when it comes to sending it off to Scoble.

What's the address again?

No idea. Jeff sent me 4 for pointing out an "issue" on C9 once. I never got the one for the postcard I sent (not that it matters now.)

Wasn't it in a thread recently...

I sent in a post card but didn't get one... So I contacted Scoble directly and he was nice enough to mail one to me. Smiley

Channel 9 Guy
MSDN Webcast Guy (C9 Guy's little brother apparently)
Robotech figure in a box up in my overhead bin

Ooooh and my lightup lightsaber spoon from a box of cereal (lights up green, the battery still works).

I'm a bit of a packrat when it comes to this sort of thing.

These toys puzzle me. What is their purpose?  In my workspace, every item has a function; every function has an item. A place for everything and everything out of place.

The function of toys is to blow some steam off or something.

That's what unsuspecting Cow-Irkers and innocent bystanders are for.  Personally, I've found my most effective steam-blowing regulatory mechanism is "Bat vs. Tree".

Stress and boredom relief and the odd bit of procrastination.

But for that I've got games installed Smiley

...almost everything else in here has a purpose, except the aforementioned plushies, but I guess they're there to fill the empty space on top of my monitors. (Back when I had a single-monitor system I used one of those IKEA monitor surrounds that provided space for a printer, modems, and whatnot.... but they don't make models for multimon systems.

I don't have a single freaking toy Sad Actually, I have a pen with a tie-wrap around the cap of it...that's it though...oh, wait! I have a broken evelope-opener that I use to cut up paper when I'm bored or waiting on a long-task.

Other than that, my desk has a watch (which was on my wrist), a water-bottle (which was been in the same place for almost 2 weeks. I've got some business cards (oooo, fun!), a flexible lamp, and a NIC Smiley

That's about it. Somebody send me a plushie!
