I've been searching the internet for a solution to a problem that we have at work. We need the ability to back-up a bluetooth cellphone (text messages, contacts, etc.). We have many different brands of cellphones, and I have found some software on the internet that is capable of interfacing with multiple brands of phones, but I'm wondering if just purchasing a bluetooth adapter for our PC will allow us to copy the data over manually.

So the question is, if I hook up a bluetooth adapter to my PC and connect to a bluetooth phone through that, what kind of access will I get on the phone. Will I be able to copy over contacts, etc?

Anyone have a cheap software solution that they can recomend if this is not possible with Windows out of the box?

I saw a package for backing up cell phones a few weeks ago at one of the larger electronics stores. It came with adapters for most major cell phone brands and had an add-on pack you could purchase to get more adapters. All I saw showed USB access but it might have bluetooth access also. It's worth looking into. I almost got it myself because my wife, myself, and my 2 sons all use different phones.

Bluetooth support comes in various "profiles", one of the profiles, that pretty much all phones support, is the serial port profile. This allows applications to talk to the phone exactly as though it were connected via a serial cable or a usb->serial adaptor. Your bluetooth adaptor will come with software that allows you to create a virtual serial port to connect to a specific bluetooth device. If you have phone syncing software just configure it to use that port and away you go. If your bluetooth device comes with the Widcomm bluetooth stack, and your phone supports it, you can use the OBEX SYNC profile to sync contacts into Outlook. If you use the Microsoft bluetooth stack included in SP2 you will be limitied to transfering one contact at a time, initiated from the phone, as a vcard file.

how do i send a transfer a draft message stored in my mobile to PC. i have created a software which will record all my daily expenses. So daily i store my expenses in my mobile as draft message and then later i am planning to transfer that draft message. but thru bluetooth i dont get access to draft folder of my cell. So how do i do??

Tyler, Unfortunately you need software in order for the PC to talk to the cell phone. I've used Quicklink Mobile Phonebook for quite some time now. But, in there usual method of decision making Verizon no longer has that s/w available.Instead you can pay monthly to have then save it online.... Or you can get several devices and other s/w from a third party. BTW the s/w is only for the contacts, you can forward text to your email. The phone companies aren't happy unless they are making more money on you. Capitalism at it's finest. Check these out. Good luck.
