I wanted to install Service pack 4 for SQL 2000 and thought i can download it from Msdn.
I tried to search on ">http://search.msdn.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?__VIEWSTATE=&query=sql+server+200+sp4&siteid=0&tab=0">
Search.msdn.com by typing sql server sp4 and you know what results i got back
http://search.msdn.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?__VIEWSTATE=&query=sql+server+200+sp4&siteid=0&tab=0
this shows Microsoft still suck at their own developer website... bad bad bad...
i tried on Google
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sql+server+sp4&btnG=Google+Search
Its right on target.
I think Microsoft should stop working search technology and just use Google search..........
bad bad bad.....![]()

It might help if you searched for SQL Server 2000 and not 200.

They're talking about the MSDN search, which really isn't very good. You rarely get what you're looking for with it. -
Yeah I know. My second response was in relation to

MSDN search is bad, I'm not disagreeing with that. However they're recently rolled out a new version so hopefully it'll improve. -

Microsoft can't even fix their own developer network search and they want to compete with Google. No wonder Microsoft is evil going after someone else when their own backyard is not cleaned....
Msdn website has been around for years still they didn' t fix the da** search. In my opinion, Microsoft should stop competing with Google and fix
1. Search -> MSDN
2. MSN Search (now getting better)
3. Have 1 common Search website for both MSN and MSDN

I thought it was a known issue that MSDN search was extremely lacking? It has only been that way for like, ever.
I agree it is frustrating, I also hate how MSDN code samples are completely unformatted in IE7, rendering the samples useless, which forces me to use Firefox to browse MSDN. Isn't it ironic?
But on the other hand, at least MS has MSDN, which does contain so much great info, but they really do need to work on that search feature. -
Have you tried search.microsoft.com?
That search is pretty good. MSDN Search I use more for API searches. True that they need to unify all the searches (products and API), but I understand why they would seperate it.
So the search is getting better, but for what you were looking for I probably would have used search.microsoft.com.
But hey that's just me.

Good point, it's actually on technet and not msdn. No wonder there's difficulty finding it.

I gave up trying to use MSDN Search a long time ago... Now I just dump "site:msdn.microsoft.com <query>" into google.
The MSDN Search team, when developing a new version have an extremely difficult task ahead of them. Primarily because the content on MSDN isn't logically ordered by any known system. Worse still are the cross-linking references that junk you between legs on what was once a simple binary tree structure (or at least was designed to be). -

I don't believe this
MSDN Search Powered By MSN Search

Well, I would assume that MSN search will be disolved once live.com comes out of beta. I did a search there, here's what I got. Interestingly enough, it get's different (better, maybe?) results than MSN search.

Agreed. But my question is about MSDN search not MSN Search i know Microsoft is working on Msn Search just to compete with Google..
