Knoppix, Fedora Core, or Ubuntu? I can't decide which one to try first (no, I'm not going to put this on my laptop, I am going to attempt a dual boot setup).

And so the world ends. Not with a bang, but with a whimper.
Ubuntu is an excellent choice, Breezy Badger (5.10) works great and if you're feeling lucky you can give Dapper Drake, which is in beta atm, a try. If you want to play around with the latest stuff, such as Xgl or Beagle, there are tons of great guides for dapper over on ubuntuforums.org. Have fun Smiley

Again, XP is fine for most people. I'm happy with XP for my entire family. Sure I'm running Vista personally(build 5365), but that's because I'm half crazy.

I'll beleive it when Bill or Steve say it. Everything appers to be on track now (from my point of view at least) and build 5365 runs better then XP on my Centrino 1.6GHz, short of major security concerns, I cant see why they'd miss shipping by three months.

In other news, keep an eye on Scoble's blog, we'll either get a 'no comment' on the issue or Scoble confirming that we're on track for the scheduled release.

Vista delayed = Microsoft dying = Shift to Linux

I don't understand this logic. But it seems a lot of people think it this way.

Not to make anyone confused about my "loyalty", I still prefer windows. But if I have to use linux I use ubuntu. Smiley

Thats how the *nix crowd always sees it. Then again the Apple crowd would beg to differ that no one would shift to Linux, they'd all buy Macs. Now here's how we see it-

Vista delayed = (XP already on the market = More XP sales) = $$ for Microsoft

There. I highlighted some words for you. That help? That's "dual boot" with XP. DUAL BOOT WITH XP. What gives you the whacked idea that I'm dumping my XP install? I really don't care when Vista ships. I'm happy with what I have. What's wrong with installing Linux? Cripes.

Here's let's repeat that for Littleguru:

DUAL BOOT WITH XP

OK, I would express my sorry if you thought it's an offense to you. I was speaking the issue as a general idea which is spreading in some communities and not specifically on your case.

Actually I am not a Microsoft *fanboy*, even though I love Microsoft and its products, so I really don't care what you are going to use. For me, I use the best products only.

Uh hu. Yes, dear.

Now, would you bother backing up your past assertions about the "declining marketshare" of Windows? Or should we just keep enduring your baseless claims for an indefinite time?

One day Linux might hit the magic market share number of .5%, I say 2010 or so. Then we know Microsoft is in for it Smiley

The delays are not helping. First, they missed the Christmas season (ho ho ho) and it might not ship until summer now? Why not wait until the following Christmas then?

True, they're not helping...but they really shouldn't push it too much further I have to agree it's just not good for public image if for anything else.

If they delay it a few months? There will be a lot of pissed of geeks and some very upset hardware vendors. The rest of the world will not care one iota.

If they ship a broken product? Things will be much worse.

Personally I won't buy the story about delays till I here from somewhere a little more official.

If Linux did rule the OS market how long would it last? Do you really think that Microsoft would just sit around weep? No, they would try anything in their power to win back the monopoly and ultimently succeed.

Am I getting something wrong, or what? The topic seems to be about the vista delay that gartner predicts. What does it have to do with your dual boot idea and the problem which linux distro to choose?

I classified it as off topic, because it seems to have nothing to do with the topic.

I would like to know where they get their data from.  As far as I have heard repeatedly January 2007, but then again they have delayed it before.
