Windows Media Player 11 is available on Softpedia before it is available on Microsoft Download sites

http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Microsoft-Windows-Media-Player-11-Download-39801.html

Use the RO site as it is a LOT faster.  WGA is required

Awesome! ^.^

Does it work with XP?

And is WGA = Windows Genuine Advantage?

Not that anyone cares... But the file has a valid Microsoft digital signature and thus it is a valid file created by the Microsoft corporation (either that or someone has been able to crack Microsoft's signature... Which seems highly unlikely).

Yeah, and on the MS website, there is a link to the Softpedia page Tongue Out
Inital Impressions: Loving it... Lot's of improvements... No down sides thus far... Haven't even checked out everything yet even.

Interesting.

I was unable to install the program without re-naming the file to a shorter filename (WMP11.exe).

It seems that C:\Documents and Settings\Michael Griffiths\My Documents\Downloads\Microsoft Windows Media Player 11\Microsoft Windows Media Player 11.exe threw an unnamed error.

Look, no errors.
What's up with the font distortion?

If this is due to application-specific Clear Type settings then where's the option to turn it off?

I'll hold off any other opinions until I can resolve this rediculous bug.

Cleartype is enabled by default in WMP11 (correct me if I'm wrong), as it is in IE7.

I don't believe it's possible to turn it off; you might want to try searching the options dialogue.

Regardless, you should run the Cleartype Fine Tuner if you haven't already. that may alleviate the problem.

URGE is really, really nice.

I dislike how you cannot rate things as easily as you could in previous versions. Need to right-click.

It also is very hard to find the zoom function for the icons/etc.

The views are nice, but very limited.

Still can't add metadata to movie files.

Overall, it's a good improvement.

Edit: Alright.

URGE is really, really good.

I may have found a subscription music plan I'm willing to pay for. Smiley

However, the entire program is a tad sluggish on my machine when attempting to scroll the entire URGE catalogue. Not a big deal, but annoying. Stacks take several seconds to appear.

Microsoft has to get their "ClearType is BESTEST!" arrogance out of them, ClearType does NOT look good on some of my monitors, so why are they forcing me to use it?

(Although it is possible to disable it in IE7 but not WMP10, I don't know about WMP11, but IE7 should ask about using ClearType during setup and not assume we all want to use it)

One thing I don't understand about the ClearType is why nobody is using the global switch. Windows itself provides a way to enable and disable it. Why are the applications (Microsoft applications) not using that switch??

I would understand it if a thirth party wouldn't, but heck, why is Microsoft not using that switch? This drives me nuts: i mean the disable/enable checkbox in the IE7 is completely needless. It is not required!

I was wondering the same, in the EULA it says that it is pre-release software, so it defintitely aint final, dont know how close to final it is though.

Wait, that's odd.  Softpedia says nothing about it being beta! Big Smile

I love it!  I clicked on "Artist" in Urge, and as the list for all of their artists grew bigger and bigger, so did the simile on my face!  But why doesn't Urge use the Live ID system?  I had to enter all of my info in for them. Sad

So pre-release. And why do I get the feeling Urge will be US only.

No point in downloading then!

What if you want a media player that isn't integrated in online money-making schemes?

hah.  It gives the option to not install URGE.
Hey!  It has a folder view! (right click on "library" in the list pane and click "Show More Views".  Now I can easily tell where these random music files are comming from.  That goes for pictures also.

edit:
wow.  and next to some of the tracks there are buttons that say "play music video". sweeeeet.

Who cares? :O

Btw, so far I'm liking this new version of Media Player, however the Clear Type thing is still pissing me off.

Wow.  I wanted to test the size of the URGE library, so I searched for "Brad Sucks" (which I found about on 10) and wouldn't you know it, "I don't know what I'm doing" is its database.  Even better, it realized that I already have it and changed the "buy" buttons to "In Library". Big Smile
