Does anyone have a rough idea of when urge is going to make it to the UK, or when it's going to be possible to use any of the stores over here?
Currently it's just saying that there are no stores available in my area.
It'd be nice to buy from one of the billion mp3 sites in the UK (djdownload.com anyone?), sort it out Microsoft, thanks.

So the online services provided in windows media player11 are dependant on your regional and language options settings (you will find that one in control panel). If you change to US location, then all the online stores will be available . -jan erik-

Okay, so if you own a 64 bit box, what would be the difference between running 32 bit WMP11 and running 64 bit WMP11 (if it existed)?  Would the 64 bit version run faster?

A 64bit version would run faster, thanks to the additional general purpose registers, which would be noticable in the 64bit versions of codecs used (there is a 64bit compile of Xvid available, too).

But it isn't as much as having a native version than making the installer put the application on Windows x64. Extracting the installers and copying the files over manually in safe mode makes it "install" on x64, working fine, so there's no reason why it should artificially block an installation on x64.

XP x64 there's only a 32 bit WMP, but in Vista x64, WMP11 comes in both 32 and 64 bit flavours. It uses 64 bit WMP as the default, which of course gives the same problem as with 64 bit IE. While all MS-provided codecs come in a 64 bit version, third party codecs such as DivX do not so whenever the user tries to open such a file, it will open with 64 bit WMP which will then act as if there is no codec installed. The user must then manually find 32 bit WMP in the file system (unlike with IE, there is no link to the alternate version in the start menu) and use that to play the file.

I hope that they will be able to implement some mechanism that automatically detects if a codec is 32 bit only and launches the 32 bit WMP, otherwise a lot of people are just going to assume WMP is broken when the above happens.

I'd just be happy if the 32bit version installs on XP x64. There's no reason it shouldn't, because you can "install" it by manually copying the files, and people say it works fine.

If you purchased your computer with Microsoft Windows on it from a computer shop and or other vendor then it might be a mistake -- contact Microsoft using this web site.

However, if you knew you were running an illegal / pirate copy and intended to then I suggest you wait for a cracked version to appear on the internet and use it at your own risk.
