I have a big problem! Vista is telling me that it needs to be activated. Every time i try to activate it I get the error:

A problem occurred when Windows tried to activate. Error Code 0x8007000D

Description: The data is invalid.

Does anybody know how to solve this? It's urgent. It is telling me that I need to activate within the next 2 days. Btw. I did already select to activate Windows during setup and it is the beta version I downloaded from Microsoft website, with my serial (I got also from the beta website).
...and how does that make you feel..?  Sad

*sorry - our hearts go out to you lilguru as you battle the powers that be ...

(my install did that - but then it magically worked before the deadline.. i think it was the 5308 build  or whatnot)

I can feel my brain cells commiting hara-kiri.
I'm having the exact same problem, although I have 11 days left to activate.

It's the same situation here: Downloaded from Microsoft, installed and activated on sunday. When I booted it up yesterday, I was asked to activate again. While doing it, the above mentioned error occured.....

If anyone should have a solution, that would be great!

But that specific error message I bypassed by reinstalling without "Activate whenever signed on" or whatever the prefrence was in the beginning.

It's a beta-bug.

Fear not, help is at hand. Very soon.

C9 will make a movie filming you for two days how you fight to get Vista activated.

Hey that will be fun...you are getting on C9...can't wait to download the clip.

nah just kidding...I'm on your side, trust me...

I did everything as the guy said: Login in safe mode, Enable Administrator, add Administrator to the Welcome screen, logged in as Administrator and tried to activate

SAME ERROR! This is very urgent now. I have 2 days left...

littleguru might have forgotten to add that unless he activates Vista the world will end...

No. But I have no time for this stuff right now. I need to learn, and if I can't activate, I have a problem in two days! I have only one computer, with vista installed!! And I have no time to reinstall all right now... So... Microsoft guys help me out.

What do you honestly expect me to say to that? ...

Try and activate again and after go into the event log and get all relevant entries, it should list the failed attempt and more information.

Also include your network, server, login, domain, etc setup and generally as much information as you can.

Just a shot in the dark, but do you have Daemon Tools installed?  I know version 3.47 will cause this issue with activation.  If so, the fix is to uninstall and install version 3.33.  You can find older versions on their site if you hunt for them.

If not, it's possible some other program you have installed is causing this issue - try uninstalling software until you can activate (or your activation status changes back to activated).  A pain?  Sure, but it's less of a pain than starting over from scratch, right?

another shot....do you have Symantec/Norton AntiVirus installed and running??? Try uninstalling it and see what goes from there. There is problem with one of the Symantec drivers not being recognized by Vista.

Today is not my day... I woke up at 6 couldn't sleep anymore... after 5 hours. Then Windows complained about not being activated... and I did a search about the error, but did not find anything.

Been there myself... plus the frustration always clouds things a bit.

I have experienced this problem as well. Here's what I did to activate my Windows Server 2008. I right-clicked MY COMPUTER icon in the desktop, then select PROPERTIES. Then click CHANGE PRODUCT KEY, then enter the serial key again. After clicked NEXT, it successfully ACTIVATED. Wow!!! That's it for the pain in activating.

I know this thread is officialy dead, but since it's revived...

Not to sound like an ass, but, littleguru, aren't you a MS employee? Can't you guys write to the windows division directly, or why do you have to ask this question here? This not not meant as a troll post, I am really curious.
