you guys may help me out on this. i was discussing on windows vista
yesterday when all of a sudden a friend of mine said that windows will
become slower when run over a period of time when compared to debian
and his only proof was that a "very good person on OSS " told him so ?
. i didnt bother to discuss about it as 1) he certainly does not have
any clue on what he is talking about
2) my lack of experience on running both debian and windows anytime longer than one day.
Just from my experience, it's not so much that Windows becomes
slower, but the average user installs so much garbage on their machine
(not even including malware), a Windows install just gets bogged down
from automatic startup programs, bloated registry, etc.. Many
Windows users believe you must reinstall Windows about every 6 months
because "it just gets slow." Most Free software programs do not
set themselves to startup everytime, with the exception of servers, so
this could be one reason your friend believes this.
It's purely user error, IMO... I've seen machines with close to a
hundred startup programs, with nary a virus to be found. A
properly maintained Windows install is just as speedy as a Linux box.
