Don't want your daughter listening to Eminem right now, eh? Wink

They'll probably be trivial to work-around anyway.

Okay, this is now my silencer example for when Apple says Microsoft is copying Apple as a reason why Microsoft is bad.
Some of the stuff labelled "Explicit" on iTunes is just insane... Even songs without one f' word in... Or others with sexual references SO vague I myself don't even notice them without looking the song up.

The new movie service on iTunes is very interesting, 1.5 GB movies, equal price to wallmart... The only downside is you don't get the psychical DVD so are limited to a PC or iPod.

I plan on continuing to buy DVDs, but it beats the hell out of Pay-Per-View (who's pull hasn't been the price but the convenience).

Plus their current selection is great, The Rock, Gone in 60 Seconds, Pirates of the Carribian... And others...

Without trying to ask for everything, I wish they could extend their TV selection, I would like to see Smallville, and many other TV favourites on it.

PS - The new "Games for iPod" thing is not a service I plan on ever using.

Does iTunes 7 download album art automatically?  I mean for music that is already ripped but doesn't have album art.

What do you think of the Coverflow view when viewing albums? It appears to be exactly the same as the CoverFlow app for the Mac bought from steelskies.com.  I am still waiting for all my album art to download Sad

Yes, but I suspect it will be slow for a couple of days whilst everyone tries to their entire collection Smiley

Equal price, this is why it's not going to do very well I think. Downloadable movies should be 50-75% less than their hard media counterparts.

Also a reason why eBooks should be cheaper than their paper counterparts, but most of the time they are not.

And Wal*Mart don't stock titles they find "objectional" either.

BTW, it's Wal*Mart (or WalMart, not WallMart, it's from Walter, not Wallter Wink )

True, they both copy from each other.

However, this version of iTunes is not beta - unlike WMP11.  As well, WMP11 is an incredible processor hog, even in beta2 when it's updating it's URGE catalog.  I hate it when I launch WMP11 beta to view a video and the video starts to chug while URGE is updating in the background.  That's incredibly poor, and it should have been fixed in beta 2.

The problem is that iTunes has now caught up to an attractive feature of WMP11, and it's...well, iTunes with that incredibly huge mindshare it already has.  The interface is still superior to WMP11 (IMO), and now it has the eye-candy as well.

And now decent-quality downloadable TV shows and movies.  Really, it's sad to see MS keep getting its butt kicked in this area.

Yes, and iTunes 7 works gracefully on a 1 GHz system LOL Expressionless

They are both badly written bloatware. I play my iTunes tracks though WinAmp and spend a minimal amount of time in the iTunes software as I can.
And the best bit is the shiny new icon.

I so called it! I mean, not on the internet anywhere, but in conversations with friends and family I did.

Seriously, prior to WWDC 2006 I predicted two changes to the look of Apple products. I thought they would both happen at the WWDC, but I suppose a consumer event is more appropriate.

The first is the re-introduction of color into Apple's product line. The launch of the iPod nano a year ago marked the end of all color in Apple's hardware. All of their products were composed entirely of white, black, gray, and silver. Now, there's nothing wrong with that; certainly products that have a grayscale color scheme will look good in almost any minimalist, contemporary interior, but it's a bit boring to not have the variety that color brings. Personally, I was hoping for a Mac mini color at the time, but whatever works.

The second is a movement away from glass in their user interfaces. It seemed like a likely direction to me simply to set a countertrend to the heavy emphasis on glass in Vista. Apple has had glass in their UI since the launch of OS X, so what better time to move away from it than just as Microsoft is massively adopting it system-wide? Just compare iTunes 6 to iTunes 7. All glass in the main window of iTunes 7 has gone away, down to the scrollbars. I heavily suspect that the standard Aqua widgets in the final release of Leopard will have most traces of glass stripped away.

No one knows this aparently: In WMP10 you can buy and rent movies.  like... download them.  The CinimaNow store does it.

It's not in WMP11 yet, but I'm sure it will be when the final version comes out.

As for TV... the Windows solution to that is to record it yourself, which I actually prefer, so go me I guess.

Except that one constantly accuses the other of copying as if it's a one way street.

What's it matter whether WMP11 is in beta or not?  Lot's of Google stuff has been in beta for years, yet if anyone comes out with a competing product, they're accused of copying.  And regarding album art, WMP has had that for years now, in RTM versions of WMP; it's not new to WMP11.

Regarding downloading movies and TV shows, iTunes locks you into one store (who's movie selection is pathetic at the moment), while WMP offers many stores like MovieLink.com and CinemaNow.com, which kicks iTMS's butt royally.  And CinemaNow.com is starting to offer TV shows too.

It's true that iTunes has larger mindshare and will continue to.  But as far as "it's sad to see MS keep getting its butt kicked in this area", oh well, you can't win them all (nor would I want one company to win them all).

Hypermediocrity

Ok, that was depressing...

I've installed iTunes 7 on my desktop machine (there's no underpowered laptop excuse now) and it simply SUCKED.

Slow, CPU hogging, slow, unresponsive, did I mention slow?

I'll let it up today while at work so maybe it just has to update some only-he-knows-what thing and check again tonight. If the situation is not improved by a couple of order of magnitude by tonight (just to put it back in line with the early, slow, WMP11 previews) iTunes is on a direct route to the Recycle Bin.

That's because last night, completely frustrated, I downloaded the trial edition of anapod and that thing Just Works (tm). No crap, no store, no DRM, no delays, no CPU @ 100%. Just drag & drop and you're set.

I am having the worst experiences with Apple software lately, is it just me? Or maybe there's some tiny bit of overhype going around the Mac circles?

People do seem to be having trouble, although personally I must have been lucky and got a different version of iTunes to you ... mine works fine (although it was a little slow in retrieving so much album art).

On my Mac it runs like lightning but I suppose that is to be expected - maybe Apple releasing bad Windows software is payback for MSN on OSX? Smiley
