Here it is... I called Mark up & had a quick chat.

Listen 'til the end please. It's only 13 minutes long.

There's also a big announcement in there.

If extending the grand prize to the two other developers doesn't satisfy you, I suspect nothing will.

Thanks for doing this, Minh! Well done! Perhaps we need a Minh show on C9 Smiley Mark, thanks for doing this. And special thanks for not laying down a load of BS. Very, very cool!

CONGRATS TO ALL THREE WINNERS!!! Smiley

Hmm. Niners posting their own Screencasts and Podcasts on C9. Yes. That's music to my ears.

Stay tuned,

linux_guru,

Welcome to Channel 9.

Please do not hijack threads. You have taken this thread in a direction that it was not intended to go. Please refrain from this type of activity. All Niners are free to start new threads at any time.

Thanks,

Just, wow. You didn't show _any_ bias or anything there. Loaded words FTW Wink.

On the other hand, we could learn a thing or two from their contests Smiley. I still have the feeling though that even if we had identical contests to the "Summer of Code", people would still find a way to bash Microsoft. Sigh, c'est la vie. Just another routine day when working at the Death Star Tongue Out.

Edit: Dang, I wish there was a way to delete my own posts (I'm going to be ultra-embarassed if there is Tongue Out). I type up a post, and before I know it, there are like 30 replies Smiley.

Charles,

"Happy Death Star"?

How about Live Galaxy!

Let Microsoft Marketing decide this one, any bets?Wink

I am pleased to see Microsoft did the right thing about the contest and Minh did the telephone interview with Mark. Great response to the Channel 9 developer community. Let's move on, please.

Cool

true - but thanks to w3bbo too.

ps - i never entered this contest... but i feel da love Wink

Nice work there Minh!

Off-topic: More softies posting lately, at least thats what it seems to me...good stuff.

"The Rory effect"?Smiley
Thanks for doing that Minh! It's great to see the passion and drive coming from the Niners. And to Mark, thanks! I'm glad to see this decision was made.

Here's to hoping that trend continues. I would love to see more and more 'softies becoming active Niners.

While this may be my first comment on the topic (been reading and mostly agreeing with a lot of what has been said) I would like to say:

Thank you RossJ, W3bbo, Minh, Mark Jewett and others. It's nice to see something good come from all this. An acceptable outcome has come of this and everyone has learned something. Most of all it shows how truly powerful reasonable voices and intelligent conversation (including a little emotional over-reacting) can lead to hopefully a truly better outcome next time. The world is not a perfect place and sometimes even the best of us make mistakes (cept me of course since im perfect... Wink )

@Mark, since I believe that you truly have gained a vast amount of knowledge from this situation and that you can admit to being only human..... I think I would be interested for sure in any upcoming contests you may run. No man ever learned anything from doing it right all the time every time.

This is really kewl and I for one am proud to be a niner.

Fantastic job Minh, for taking the initiative to score the interview.

I think that MJ deserves a major pat on the back for not losing the will to live this week.  And any Softie who pulled strings or endured awkward moments in order to arrange extending the grand prize, good job!
Yes, I agree with some of the original "loose lips and contest rules sink ships!" sentiment, but who declared Tuesday international crap-on-MJ day?   Sheesh, if we would all give our respective governments the same kind of grief we give hard-working Microsoft employees, people might start having occasional moments of personal privacy again!
Everyone makes mistakes, but thank you Mark and others for trying to make it as right as possible, for making a sincere effort to do better next time, for doing contests at all in the first place, and for putting up with all us fussy niners.

Lots of people out here in the aether appreciate it.

Great work Minh. You pulled a lot out of your subject.

MJ was hurt personally and this is a way for him to get some angst off his chest. SQL Server Product Manager. That's 'Mister' Jewett who apologized; hardly necessary, imho. My 11 year old son keeps asking me why I don't set up CGI for his lego movies...

This forum is shining. Chuckie rules. Eagle's back, too. As F. Gump would say "I gotta pee".

I actually was thinking about, if that was possible.
I have been doing a screencast on Powershell, which i thought was quite nice, in danish, but i like being able to target a broad usergroup.
I could just post it somewhere on my blog or something, but Channel9 would be a great place to post it.

Also, this is VERY good stuff Minh, this is really nicely done!

Also thanks to the team, for doing this.

I hope to see more by you Minh Cool

Also congratz to all the new grand prize winners Big Smile
I haven't listened to this yet, just about to head off to work, but it sounds like exceedingly good news - more when I've listened to it.
Interview of the year?

Seriously, good job Minh. Thanks Mark, and wow, what a lotta crap you took from certain Niners (looks at fdisk) who ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Passion. Bleh.

I think this is one case that will be remembered for a long time to come of where the Niner community had a HUGE impact on something Microsoft did.
