Just noticed it on the Microsoft website and downloading it now...

Congratulations Windows Media team. Does this mean we will get a Channel9 video from them too?

It would be nice if my school's proxy didn't have some strange aversion to files named wmp11-windowsxp-enu.exe...  looks like I'll have to wait until I get to a different internet connection.

Wheres my head at?
The usermode driver framework, or at least an earlier incarnation of it, also shipped with Media Player 10, it is used to support user mode drivers for MTP portable media players, not for soundcards themselves.

Aren't Vista audio drivers still kernel mode anyway? It's just the operating audio processing stack thats now user mode.

For some reason my mp10 visualization window stopped opening when in toolbar mode... mp11 put it back, yeah.

Auto uninstall of mp10 without pestering is nice too.

If it could only be trained to destroy any attempt of Real Media to take over my machine... (and play that content itself)...

Find out.

My understanding is that they aren't planning to release Media Player 11 for Server 2003. I guess the reasoning was that only a small population of people use Windows Server as a desktop, so it wasn't worth the broader test matrix or something like that.

So I guess the old addage is true, if you want something done do it yourself

Yay! I've been running WMP11 Betas for ages, nice to get the full product.

Does this mean that Urge will be available in the UK soon then? (or already... rushes off to check the Urge site.)
hey jamie, can you make a WMP 11 ideas thread? please?

I'm suprised that nobody mentioned the completely NEW look of WMP11 here. I just finalized my instal and I am absolutely blown away by how cool WMP11 looks - a completely new GUI...neat!

I thought you were a diehard Windows 2000 guy?  When did you switch to Windows Server 2003?

That's what I thought until I downloaded Winamp.

At first I thought WMP11 had a great, shiny little interface, but the more I used it the more frustrated I became at how inefficient and awkward it was to use. There's so much wasted space, it's confusing to use and only the "outside" areas are polished up.

I don't like WMP11 one bit. Sad

Argh!

It has foisted some vista look and feel on me. I'm, not using vista. I'm using XP.

The menu system is as random and awful as ever.

I dont want my list grouped into albums with all these pictures! But unlike, say, explorer, can I right click and change view? nooo.. I have to hunt around for the right icon on the none-standard toolbar

How can something so simple as a media player be made so complicated? If Winamp can be simple, why not media player?
Pick a simple skin and roll with it.  WMP isn't that hard, guys.

Before C# there was darkness...
I have been running 11.0.5358.4826 for some time.  Is that still beta?  BTW - why can't MS add "Beta 1", "Beta 2" to the About box in all their betas so we can tell quickly and not have dig around to see what a build number means?  tia
It's funny that supposed "tech-savvy" folks can't even figure out how to use a simple media player.  I (can almost) guarantee that MS used usability tests and picked an interface that would be easy to use by the masses.  Me thinks that those that struggle to use WMP don't want to use it in the first place for whatever reason, and so are predisposed to find it "diffiult" to use.

BTW, Winamp sucks, and has for years; talk about a cluttered mess.

I like the new WMP. I've been using the beta for a while, and noticed some bugs in the UI. But those are apparently all gone. One of my biggest complaints about the beta (you can find my complaints in an older C9 thread) was that you couldn't navigate the UI with the keyboard. And they fixed that. You can easily tab through the entire UI (even the minimize, maximize and close buttons).

Yeah. I'm one of this forums famous anti-ms zealots. Perplexed

Thats a poor argument and simply a way of dismissing criticism. I dont purposefully find it difficult to use - I just find it difficult to use. It is un-intuitive, and while I know it will do everything I want I sometimes have to fish about in menus till I find what I want and its just *frustrating*. I wouldnt care if it were once or twice but it seems every time I go to use it I again have to fish around in menus looking for stuff.

I dont want to have to invest the amount of time to learn how to use it that I seem to have to. Its a media player - it should just work. Its possible because others do it.

And why Vista look and feel? I dont object to vista as such bu I do object to a tiny bit of vista in xp. it looks and behaves differently to everything else. When I use media player I nwo have to mentally switch a "its like vista" switch to use it - and I shouldnt have to.

And no right click on the list to change view. Come on. Please tell me thats not standard in vista.

At least making playlists seems easier than it used to.

I love the new WMP.  I think it is much more polished than previous versions.  It took a whole two minutes to find everything I was looking for.  Software like this finally make it easy for my non-techie wife to be able to use it.  That is why it makes me chuckle when programmers and techies say it is hard to use.
