More Home Server goodness is now online in this video:

Can someone explain why this home server is better than just attaching a NAS hard drive to the network?
Sure some of the software looks good but why couldn't it work with just a simple networked hard drive or two? Why use a whole PC?
Thanks.

aim stupidly high, expect to fail often.
Well, there's the fact that my Dad could set up his system to be automatically backed up, add more capacity ad hoc and then when his computer goes completely foobar do a complete system restore from a backup image.

All without knowing much at all.

Then there's the remote access, which I never got around to setting up a VPN for, so that's pretty awesome.

And all of it using some really clever space saving tech by the look of it.

Turning coffee into code
Is this the main announcement from Microsoft? Completely underwhelming. Talk about a niche ("closet") market!

It finds lightbulbs.
Millions of home users are a niche market?
after a good deep look about it seems that no one knows the real answer. Many sites say  WHS will be OEM only and a normal user wont be able to buy it but other sites are saying that you can buy it as a retail product.

And this is the real answer. Nobody really knows (you do remember a couple of days ago when everybody was CERTAIN about it being based on some Vista build, right? Smiley)

There are still details to be hammered down and it's a bit early to finalize the packaging SKUs. I wouldn't discount WHS being available as a separate software package to be installed on your home-built server...
