If I recall the new outlook express is now called windows mail or something like that. Can you use it under windows xp? Only references I found referred to Windows Live Mail, which I thought was Hotmail. Can someone correct me?

I don't think you want to use that one for newsgroups, because it actually has the same bug as the early outlook express, where you can select a big message, select another and then return to the previous before it was completely downloaden. It will now download the message for a second time.
Also the messages end up seperately in one big directory, resulting in slow startup and a lot of lagging due to frequent file handle openings, triggering virusscanners etc.
Windows Mail may also assume several security interfaces that do not exist in XP.

Hi, I am just new to this forum, but I think I might get an answer to my question on the site, so here goes.
I know that Outlook Express will be known as Windows Mail in the Vista program and have been looking at some of the features of this new mail program, but I honestly have not seen anything related to what will be of a huge interest to alot of women using O.E. because they can use stationery in it. So , here is my question, does this new mail system allow you to use stationeries to send in the mail, and that it shows in the mail as the finished product , the way it does in Outlook Express? I know for a fact, that alot of people use Outlook Express for their mail system for this specific reason. Hopefully you won't find this a silly question and someone can answer it for me, thank you.

My name has 9 letters. Coincidence? I think not...
Yes, the new version of Outlook Express in Vista is called Windows Mail; and no, it's not available for XP, nor will it be.
Windows Mail changes the default stationery location for apparently no reason. It's been in the same location since Windows 95, but not anymore.  This is why you have to change the location in your stationery script for it to work Cloudeight stationery has some Vista compatible stationery.  I make my own stationery but don't know what the default location is for Vista so I can't change my old ones from Outlook Express.  If anyone knows how please let me know.

Uh, Windows Live Mail (formerly Windows Live Mail Desktop) is meant to replace Windows Mail in Vista - it's the far superior version.

And yes, it runs on XP.

What the hell is this thread being resurrected for?

I use Windows Live mail and really like it.  I use it on both Vista and XP.  One reason I like it is because it is one of the only mail programs I can use to get to my Hotmail account through our firewall.
