Fatalism.
As background:

A few days ago, some of my applications stopped working. Of note, I could no longer "Insert" any pre-made templates in Word 2007 (trial version) such as headers, cover pages, and so on.

I got the following error message:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Another program that isn't working is the NYTimes Times Reader software; something I'm rather fond of, this being a Tablet.

It won't even open - but when I report the error to Microsoft, up pops one of those helpful "We have an answer" dialogues. Clicking on that brings me to:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

.....which is rather distressing, because I'm running Windows XPSP2 Tablet PC Edition:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

On top of that, System Restore doesn't work. I haven't tried to force it manually, but even so....

Any ideas? My only though is that Microsoft Update installed a few things on Thursday (late), and that's somehow screwed everything up.

I've seen this happen a few times (for me it happened every time I upgraded a beta, from beta 1 to beta 2, from beta 2 to beta 2 tr, from b2tr to rtm).

The simple solution is to delete the file mentioned, it'll get recreated automatically. It located at C:\Documents And Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks\1033

Only Proprietary software vendors deal in absolutes.
This is what happens when you do business with a company that treats its userbase like criminals and forces upgrades. WGA and Activation will be used as forced upgrade vehicles. Try in 2008 to buy a version of Windows XP and install it. $1,000 US dollars says Microsoft will not allow it to be activated. Thank god Linux is here.

Ok, I take the bet.

Where do we put the money until Jan 1st 2008?

I'm expecting you to follow thru with your bet, unlike your last promise to leave (yet another lie of yours)

Forced upgrade? Yeah, I can really see the DOJ and EU allowing that to happen. It's not like the DOD would throw a fit either at being forced to upgrade. At least try to spread realistic sounding FUD, ok?

Corona_coder,

Microsoft plans to support XP until 2012. So even if Microsoft could do this (which they can't without a lawsuit), they wouldn't try until then.

Anyway... seriously, you should chill.

Why dont you help Linux improve by committing code, ideas, or donations rather than troll these forums and insult everyone on them?

Why don't you have all your friends do the same? This way you'll be to pre-occupied to think about Microsoft or Windows and actually be contributing something useful.

If you stumbled and fell down, it doesn't mean yet, that you're going in the wrong direction.
"We have an answer" is just a one more joke! Big Smile It's just a feature with codename "Trust us! I're not forgotten!" Big Smile

I've got following "extremely usefull suggestions" (in my word):

 - You had a problem with Firefox. Download and install the latest version! (FF2.0.1 installed already)

- Go to "Creative" website and download drivers for your "Webcam Live! Pro" (Hmmm... No such drivers! Creative doesn't supports those cameras anymore! ("Development not planned"))

- You had a problem with video. Go to NVIDIA's website and download drivers for you video card (Hmmm... For my Toshiba M205's NVIDIA FX Go 5200? Are you serious? Very funny!)
