Vista1 to Vista2 will not work
Vista1 to XP will work
Vista2 to Vista1 will work
Vista2 to XP will work
XP to Vista1 will work
XP to Vista2 will work

Any one know why Vista1 to Vista2 will not work i only at authentication failed and it asking me to renter the password
How are you entering your credentials? Don't forget the domain or machineName section of your username (and try both the old "DOMAIN\User" and new "User@domain" username formats)
Not much of a loss.

I'm currently using XP Home and I was disappointed to learn that only remote assistance is offered, not full blown remote desktop.

But I quickly stopped caring when I downloaded TightVNC. It works fantasic and the compression algrothmns are highly customizable.

Its a really good open source app IMHO.
try a ping from V1 to V2. If that doesn't resolve check Windows Firewall Settings. if it does try to get the c$ pipe ie:  \\[computername]\c$

if that continues to ask you for correct credentials check your authentication settings on V1 and V2 in your security poicies, specifically refering to LM/NTLM/NTMLv2. Make sure V1 and V2 have the same policies. If they do, set to send LM and NTLM and see if that works. Pathing to policy editor:

Control Panel->System Maintenance->Administrative Tools->Local Security Policies->Security Policies->Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level Properties

If that doesn't work im out :/
Curious, I've used Remote Desktop Vista Ultimate to Vista Ultimate no problems at all. (Thank heavens for MSDN licenses.)

It defaults to the local machine as a domain, so I just had to enter username + password. Especially neat is the fact it saved those credentials so I've only had to do that once.

I remember there were various options about enabling remote desktop, but both used the recommended "secure" option, whichever that was.

I'm assuming your firewalls are all in order etc...
