it bothers me they are charging more for it

= ya we no drm is bad - pay more to get tracks without it

that should be illegal

but i guess you pay a premium for "organic" food instead of regular food

or you pay more for hybrid car than gas car...

welcome to the future! Where you pay a premium to escape CRAP

bah

I disagree with your comparison... organic foods often cost more than regular foods due to the costs of more ‘organic’ fertilizers and to make up for reduced yields while hybrid cars run more than standard ones due to more expensive internal parts... shouldn’t a shouldn’t a non-DRMed track cost less as the track starts off in a non DRMed state? It’s like charging more not to add the under-coat to a car.

It does seem a bit odd to be charging more to get tracks without DRM when nobody wanted it in the first place. That said, they are also doubling the bitrate, which perhaps does a better job of justifying the price increase.
its the defective by design era

Q: whats the difference between Stove A ($999 ) and Stove B ($1300)  ..they look identical

A:   Stove A has only one burner (front right) that operates at full gas capacity - the other 3 burners - operate at low gas mode. Stove B is exactly the same - with no artificail limits on the other 3 burners

so same stove - one with needless limits placed on it = diminish the value of same thing

Im seeing this DBD everywhere ...    starter..basic..  ha

I'd wager so, I wouldn't mind paying 30% more for a 100% increase in quality, wouldn't you. Not to mention all the freedom you get with DRM-free media.

....and yet I have the feeling the 30% was just something like a "CD tax" payable to the **AA to compensate for inevitable "stealing from artists" by passing non-DRM'd media to friends.

I would think that 256kbps AAC would in fact surpass CD quality if it was ripped from the Masters. I'm sure CD quality is only 300kbps.
