PaoloM, ZFS partitions now has the ability to be marketed bootable in OpenSolaris; its a very new feature. FUSE performance is not at all bad actually. Based on the performance of using my Windows volume with NTFS-3g, I confirm that the performance of reading and writing data is feels very fast as Windows's native NTFS file system drivers. Of course benchmarks might say something different but the "performance feel" is the only thing thats really important.

Indeed, and that's the question I answered. When it comes to why Leopard is potentially better than Vista, I have a much harder time coming up with an answer. The reasons that I use OS X over Windows have been in OS X since the first version (I have a personal preference for the look and feel of OS X and its apps over Windows (a totally subjective thing), I like the pervasive integration of apps in OS X, and it's advantageous to my work to have a UNIX with a native Microsoft Office). The new stuff in Leopard is basically just icing on the cake. I quite like both OS X and Vista, I just like OS X more.

My mistake, I was referring to Foley's original question.

Hehehe, Corona, I love your new caption. "Only Proprietary software vendors deal in absolutes."

I love the fact that we told him his previous avatar was sending the wrong message, and that he not only changed it to -exactly- what we were suggesting, but he also changed his caption to something he read in this thread, just changing "the FSF" into "Proprietary software vendors". The man is truly a shining beacon of originality and own ideas.

Nice, finally some facts on the issue. Thanks!

The UNIX certification is interesting. I had no idea that it was even possible to certify as a UNIX OS.

UNIX is a standard, and one that is owned by who knows who.  I think it covers things like the execution format and required command line things.

My name is Dave Oliver. I'm a Technical Architect.

Beer Corona your quotes are beginning to sound like those of Moa Zedong.

The ignorance of some people is really sad... And to think, "Mary Jo Foley" is only a search engine click away.  She is by no means an MS shill, whatever that means.

Steve Jobs is one of the best thing going for Apple. The 5000+ developers at the WWDC all acknowledge that. They don't need someone who knows nothing about Apple giving them ignorant opinions.
As for copying, Leopard is building on Tiger which built on Panther before it. For the last 6 years, Mac OS X has been leading up to Leopard. So I don't know what mean by Apple is copying. Quartz and Aqua, which are the underpinnings for the visuals in Mac OS X, have been there since the beginning.
