Why is it that all browsers have this huge white space for a blank page... its like no one has yet decided to give the users an option on it yet.. you know when you click link wham huge white screen area in your face while its loading the page..or more likely you open a link in a new tab.. you could be on a fairly dark site layout open a new link and it would make sense in my opinion if the screen didn't suddenly goto white...why can't I have it as black? huh hmmm

getting sick of it especially with a big lcd screen, wish some browser would sort it out and give an option on it.
No big deal. Just set the Window Color in the color preferences of Windows Vista/XP/2000/9x to black and you are good. IE respects that settings and you have a black page if you open a new tab or window.

Try not running your browser maximised on a high-resolution display when most websites thesedays are fixed-width and designed for 800x600 displays. Smiley

But this is the fault of the designer, not the user. Elastic-designs FTW.

All the browsers do, actually. They're called "User Stylesheets". IE supports it via the Accessibility options page, Firefox with the userContent.css in your %profile%\chrome directory, and Opera under Preferences.

well I've tried both.. the Window setting in the display props works..its exactly whats needed in a way.. but its just overkil in that it applies the setting to every window.. I just wanted it in IE engine window browser...so no good really if there was a way to force specific applications to use certain colour settings that overide the default this would be great.

also tried the internet options>colours> and set the background to black.. that sort of works.. new tabs are indeed black.. but loading new links etc still flashes the white before changing to black or doesn't work at all
I'm really happy that IE uses the default colors! There are so many apps ignoring that!
i agree about the - white flash - between page loads

according to ben slivka (ie 3/4) it was a bug that was never fixed

edit: found the email:

It's a bug.
Something that, if I were still running the team, would not have shipped.
But the software folks are no longer in charge at MSFT -- only beauracrats left -- sigh...

Subject: question for you..

your on a page thats black - you click a URL on that page to another black page.

inbetween loading the second page IE shows a flash of white - as if its saying body bgcolor=white..then it reads it right and makes the background black.. but there is a flash of white

do you no what this is?
