Yes my current employer pays for mine, other than that it's just another cost of being in business, mechanics have to by tools, we buy MSDN subscriptions if you will Smiley

You can afford it too, Dylan.

Your business is a microISV, since you are fewer than 15 folk.

Check out the Microsoft Partner program and the subscription pack for microISVs called "Empower". For only $375 and the entire shooting match is yours! Now consider the price of gas, that's what? 10 tanks? You can afford that; anyone can who drives a neon...

Tho the initial post didnt state it. So i thought i would create a post with a name that states it.

I see your point. Let me reassess the charges... Party Foul called on Stacyw for not editing his post's subject line!

Fixed it.  Tongue Out
Is it just VPC up or is the ISO up aswell?
Express editions are up and can be downloaded now.

EDIT: Downloading and installed now, going to be at least a day to get Team Suite so might aswell get a head start and see what express is up to.

Empowers great

So is the Action Pack
https://partner.microsoft.com/UK/40016455

A LOT of software for next to no money!

Should point out that with them packs you MUST release COMMERCIAL software within two years. They are aimed for ISVs to help them get started and not home users....
I like the way they are now offering a single download and also offering it via a download manager - however, I haven't got 3gb of space on this PC Sad

Good point, the action pack for sure requires a VAT number to subscribe.

Dylan already has software for retail, I believe; he's not your usual home user, but your point is valid and I didn't relay it.

Empower is made for DC-Studios, etc...

Ehhmm....  let's re-state that....

You must agree to have a plan to release and show good-faith effort to do the same.

MSFT knows that startups often fail.

if you try and fail no big deal.

part of the whole empower thing is you are telling MSFT you want to move up and are dedicated to the ISV gig.

the empower program also requires that you signup -- for free with the partner program. they also show you how you can work with them to get other benefits....

so if you can come up with the cash and you want to build some stuff to sell then go for it.

I did about 3 years back, never released the app but it helped me find a local company that made me a nice offer for a fulltime job with a steady paycheck.

Empower is a very nice program.

I was talking just generally, not pointing fingers Smiley

figuerres: Maybe I was a bit harsh Smiley Just recently, heard one or two people at Uni saying its a great way to get cheap msdn subscription....but thats not its aim as your experience has shown. But I agree, great idea.

I would love too but haven't got any bandwidth free at the moment Smiley

I am interested in something that I found in the "Readme.htm"

2.1.6 .Net Framework 3.5 has mismatched versions when installed on Windows Vista SP1 Beta

When Orcas is installed on a Windows Vista SP1 Beta platform, the .Net Framework has mismatched versions.  This causes random failures in the product.

When is it going to be available?

95% downloaded and my ISP's 'excessive use' cap just cut in Sad

Question is now what will finish first, the 3.3Gb download or the uninstall of VS2005, both started at the same time Smiley

You dare to install it on your production machine? Damn

God No!!    VPC's at work, but I'm putting it on my desktop at home, all personal stuff is going 2008 unless something goes badly wrong!  I'm keeping my laptop 2005 though for the moment Smiley

Now do I dare switch to SQL-2008 at home as well....

Is there an uninstaller that will clear off all the Orcas beta stuff from your machine?  I remember one for .Net 2.0/VS 2005.  (or was it .Net 3.0?)

I ask this because I was stupid and installed one of the CTPs on a production machine (well, actually, my home laptop) and want to get it back off, but don't know what order things need to be removed...  (IIRC, you could make a nice mess of things if you didn't uninstall in the correct order, because the uninstallers had dependencies on the other components that were installed along with them)

Well after at least 30 minutes playing no doubt this is going to be a no brainer upgrade the moment when it RTMs!

If for no other reason than the javascript intellisense and debugging!!   Work is going to suck tomorrow in VS2005 Sad
