Advice on Masters | The Coffeehouse

Hi Guys. Just after some advice.

I will be starting a Masters programme this October and am in the process of selecting modules.

Now, I have an extremely strong interest in Artificial Intelligence. I find the topic to be interesting and a challenge, thus, I would love to take modules relating to AI.

On the other hand, I can't say for sure that next year, AI will be what I am interested in and/or working on. I'm sure I will learn a lot that I can apply to whatever area of development I go into, but I am unsure as to whether I should take the more tradition software development modules.

I guess my question is:

Should I take the modules in AI which I enjoy, or the more traditional software development modules. Will the AI specific modules hinder me in any way - would the software development modules be better suited for a general development future?

The software side would certainly be useful in a future career in software engineering, but AI is probably more fun.

Why not see if you can go 50-50 on it? If not, just do what you enjoy, you probably won't be doing another masters later in life, but probably will spend a lot of it doing "more traditional software development".

Just as an aside, which University are you at?

All I'm going to say is what my decision would be: AI.

I'm thinking AI is the future. Go for it.

Details of 'more traditional software development' would probably be easier to learn outside of a Masters degre than details of AI.

I agree with Herbie.

I don't know your university of course, but I found the software engineering stuff offered at Leiden University pretty pointless. You can get that stuff out of a book easy.

But if it's possible spreading it a little isn't bad either. Heaving a broader knowledge is never a bad thing.
