Looks cool however I do not think I can take another itunes update!
Apple is taking a risk by fragmenting the market and moving from their "one-size fits all" product: the iPod, to a range of now five devices:
- Shuffle
- Nano
- Touch
- iPhone
- Classic
Personally, I think the Touch won't sell so well. Capacity-wise it doesn't have much going for it compared to the Nano, and the functionality gained: the internet access/safari and wifi itunes aren't good enough to sell the product. Essentially its a gutted iPhone. Wifi coverage isn't ubiquitous.
In the long term, I think Apple will discontinue the Shuffle because the Nano is pretty cheap as it is. Note they have't refreshed the Shuffle's design this time round. I can see them killing off the Nano for the Touch
or merging the two together, right now they're competing with each other.
I reckon the iPod Classic will be here to stay, but they risk damaging their brand with the "Classic" moniker. They should have called it just "iPod".
BTW, does anyone else notice the irony here?
Apple creates an advert denouncing Microsoft for providing 5 versions of Windows Vista, with their one-size-fits-all OS X. But now they've got 5 kinds of iPod, and Microsoft's got one kind of Zune.
Hmmmmm
