.
I have had to make a presenatation (for projection) which mainly comprises of a series of images, however there is a video at the end.

I recieved the video from the speaker in *.vob format, and I cut it down using Avidemux (in Ubuntu 7.04) to produce a *.avi file.

I embedded the file as a video on a slide at the end of the presentation (created in "Open Office Presentation").

Everything worked on my computer, but as I expected, on the Windows XP  Professional laptop I will be using for the presentation, this does not work.

The only thing I need to sort out is the embedded video.

I cannot play the video in Windows Media Player, only MPlayer for Windows works.

Does anyone have a solution? I just need to embed the video in the presentation (I can convert it to a different format [preferably on Ubuntu 7.04 as none of the converters on Windows seem to work {probably due to my creation of the video in Ubuntu 7.04}]).

Thanks in advance.

Remember AVI is just a wrapper. So unless you have the VOB codec on your Windows box it won't play. Which will also explain why your windows convertors don't work. So you need an MPEG-2 codec, or convert it to something more common, divx, wmv whatever

I have tried several MPEG codecs now, and all I get is the audio playing and no video. The only player which manages video and audio is MPlayer (which makes me think the problem is because I used Avidemux to make the video).

Download GSpot

And stop signing your flipping posts.

try google.

seriously what is the flipping point in signing your posts? They're already attributed by your username. Is it just vanity?

OK, the 4CC is "MPEG" () and name is "MPEG-1" (It is not installed).

Where can I get one of these codecs?

Thanks for the help.

Free-Codecs.com, unsure about Mpeg1 but the Elecard Mpeg2 codec is one of the most stable I've found (but then my usage is more extreme than most). Be careful on that site for spyware etc but some are links to external codec packs.

For the life of me I can't remember the name of the codec pack we use at work .. sorry.

Ross.

I have downloaded the one which was suggested (namely Elecard MPEG 2). It doesn't seem to do anything. Do I simply install it, or are there configuration procedures to go through? (I have never done [or had to do] this before).

You basically register the .ax files as if they were com objects - what I typically do is associate .ax with regsvr32 (double-click one and browse for it in Windows\system32) and then you can just double-click all of them to install.

If you just want to do one

regsvr32 mycodec.ax

from the command line

Thanks for the help. Sadly that didn't work.

Then it probably isn't Mpeg2 (but did regsvr32 say it had registered it?)

I can play the video in MPlayer (but I cannot embed this in the presentation [to my knowledge]), and the audio plays in VLC Player; Windows Media Player just gives an error.

Embed VLC?

GSpot will give you more info on the format contained inside your avi.

I can only play the audio in VLC Player, the video doesn't play at all (it only plays in MPlayer [the video is perfectly OK in MPlayer, but I cannot embed this {I believe}]).

How big is the video? Have you tried converting the .avi with ffmpeg?
